Steve Bannon Says Ron DeSantis' World Tour Was 'Humiliating' for Him
Newsweak ^ | 5/2/23 | JAMES BICKERTON

Steve Bannon has described Ron DeSantis' recent world tour, which saw the Florida governor visit stanch U.S. allies Israel, Japan, South Korea and Britain, as "humiliating."

Trump's former White House chief strategist made the comment during a monologue on his War Room podcast, which was broadcast on right-wing network Real America's Voice.

DeSantis is widely believed to be weighing up a possible 2024 presidential bid, with polling indicating he is the second most popular choice with Republican voters, after Donald Trump. It is common for perspective presidential candidates to embark on trips abroad, in a bid to garnish their foreign policy credentials.

Addressing DeSantis, Bannon commented: "They sent you on what was a humiliating tour of the world. South Korea, Japan, Israel. Then this humiliation in England where the prime minister would not meet with you. And you had this meeting with the top people in the financial community and the top corporations in London, what's called the City of London, it was humiliating.

"The political story was a humiliation to you. You're just not ready for the scale you need to be ready for."

During his trip to the U.K., DeSantis didn't meet with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, though he was greeted by Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.

DeSantis also met with leading figures in the British business community, though according to Politico, several were damning of the Florida Republican's performance, describing him as "low wattage" and "horrendous," with one commenting: "There wasn't any stardust."

In Israel, DeSantis claimed he had worked to "cajole" Trump to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which his administration announced in October 2018.

The comment sparked a furious response from Trump, who hit back on his Truth Social website.

Trump said: "DeSanctimonious had nothing to do with Israel or the moving of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. Never so much as mentioned it to me—It was the last thing on his mind.

"DeSanctus wasn't even Governor yet (It was December 6, 2017), and I barely knew him—He has turned out to be a total flameout! This is the kind of disinformation I thought only the Democrats would put out. No wonder DeSanctus is dropping like a rock in the Polls. Terrible!"

Newsweek has contacted DeSantis for comment by email.

Maybe De Sanctimonious knows someone who has a big plot of land in Jerusalem

Also a stash of Jerusalem stone

And would he be able to get the building done in a few months and way under original budget.....just askn for a FRen.

The World Tour sure came off as a prolonged series of unforced errors. If gravitas is what he sought, DeSantis sure miscalculated.

The Trump cult is still very very scared of Ron DeSantis.

We are told that Trump already has the nomination locked up by huge poll leads, so why not instead try to unify the Republican Party? Something doesn’t add up. Let’s see what happens.

Unify the Republican Party? It is DeSantis doing the bidding of an ossified and failed GOP establishment that is responsible for any division.

I have wondered why Trump has been on this ongoing one-sided campaign against DeSantis.

Yes we will need party Unity if we hope to win the election.

Bannon has a vested interest in trashing one of the most successful GOP governors in the nation (DeSantis). As Glenn Younkin demonstrated, flipping blue states to red involves building a coalition of hardcore Trump supporters, never Trumpers, and a lot of independents. Youngkin has gone on to govern successfully as a conservative.

DeSantis can string together such a coalition that would enable him to claw back enough swing states to prevail. Trump cannot. At best, Trump would carry 45% of the vote in a general election.

The Trump cult is still very very scared of Ron DeSantis.

We know that DeSanus acolytes kneel with their Democrat brethen to pray 5 times a day for President Trump's imprisonment. That's the only shot Ron's got.

Bad miscalculation. President Trump is correct that his supporters don't care what happens in America's Kangaroo Kourt system. That light at the end of the tunnel that Ron is praying for isn't the Deep State coming to save his campaign - that's the Trump Train!

in today’s hyerpoliticized, hypermediaized and hypersocialmediaized environment, it’s probably not a good idea for a low-polling candidate for national office to make a highly publicized, multi-country foreign “tour” to try to meet with high level foreign officials ...

said officials at best might be polite, but are otherwise actually quite disincentivized for anything else since they risk offending the current office holder AND offending the former office holder who is the front runner of the opposition and who might actually be the next office holder ...

possibly this might have been a useful strategy two decades ago, but certainly not today ... once again, desantis has gotten bad advice from his plethora of conventional advisers, and apparently isn’t capable of wise decisions on his own ...

The only likely real hope for DeSantis is to ride on the back of the Deep State and the uniparty and wait until they unjustly deny the people of this country a candidate Trump.

Go Ron, go! Rah rah!

Piling on to the most successful conservative governor does not make the Trump Cult look any better. Calling someone who fires a Soros prosecutor a deep state tool says worlds about the accuser.
