After successfully defusing the Cuban Missile Crisis, President John Kennedy warned against ever again forcing Russia to choose between national humiliation and nuclear war. We should heed his advice.#Kennedy24

I like RFK Jr. but this is a big “ouch”.

JFK secretly abandoned US bases in Turkey as part of the “deal”.

The Russians got a good deal.

This is total BS. Kruschev was laughing at us. He got everything he had hoped for.

Good point—I should have been more precise.

The secret agreement was to remove US nuclear missiles from Turkey.

But tue societ union isn’t russia.

Or as we all know, thats a distinction without a difference.

I dont agree with what Biden is doing.

At the same time we shouldn’t ever be afraid of enemies, especially when they are in the wrong.

As I have said before, there is no right side of whats going on in Ukraine. All 3 leaders directly involved need removal and neutralization. This globalist male decimation/europe and america weakening plan needs to be stopped. They are all just hoping it goes nuclear.

The deal certainly was what it was.

But of course Kennedy’s aim was to defuse conflict not to go to war.

His father Joe Kennedy was an Isolationist so that aspect of the Kennedy legacy came into play and maybe it was better in the end.

The Soviet Union was economically weak could not sustain its defenses in the face of Reagan’s buildup in the 1980’s.

The deal itself made sense.

My only issue with it was that it was secret from the American people—so Kennedy could claim victory—and the gushing mass media played along with the scam.

This issue just weeks before the mid-terms right after Kennedy sent tens of thousands of troops to northern Mississippi to enforce James Meredith’s enrollment at Ole Miss.

Helped to save some Democrat House and Senate members.

63 years later the island remains a prison. Not one American President has seen fit to free those slaves to communism.

He didn’t abandon bases... there were some Titan missile sites that he took down... they were obsolete at that date anyway.

The ends justify the means justification for lying to the public has gotten real old with me.

If you are not ready to publicly defend it then don’t do it.

Hi.

In the fwiw department, as of 1974-75 not only did we have bases in TU, we also had 10 kt Honest Johns. About 400 of them.

How obsolete could the Turkey missiles be?

Russia is a difficult target to miss from Turkey!

The worst part of the deal was not the removal of the missiles from Turkey. Given that we had caught them red-handed, we should have insisted on a de-militarized, neutral Cuba, like Finland. Instead, we acquiesced to a Stalinist terror-state on our doorstep that fomenting revolutions on multiple continents.

JFK secretly abandoned US bases in Turkey as part of the “deal”.

The Russians got a good deal.

The “bases” were Jupiter IRBM - which were obsolete and in above ground launch shelters and thus vulnerable to attack
They were scheduled to be decommissioned shortly

JFK basically traded nothing for something

You could hit Russia with the missiles.. just not any particular part of Russia. We had Titan missile sites where I live in the Sutter Buttes... the silos are still there... my dad always joked you could aim them at Russia but you’d probably hit Finland...
