should he have waited until he physically attacked someone first?
That was clearly the next move on his mind.
A white Marine. Trouble ahead. 🙏
Shocking!!! but predictable
From the picture I saw, the chok-ee’s eyes were open. It may be that he didn’t lose consciousness, he went into cardiac arrest (drugs might be involved) and died on the spot.
I’m shocked it doesn’t happen way more often.
>> This is a sad outcome
Nothing sad about it - one less predator roaming the streets. We need more of this, not less.
The marine needs a good lawyer I’m afraid.
True.
.
>From my reading, the crazy guy was at best a potential threat. He was ranting and threatening, but hadn’t yet physically attacked anyone. The Marine made the first move.<
He should have waited for the dude to knife an old lady before he stepped in? How about a full on right hook to her temple? Would that have been enough?
Defense of self and others doesn’t require you to be the second to act. Only the fear of physical harm is needed.

“...don’t lock up...”????
The problem began at the boarder. If THAT was ‘locked up’... there would be no issue in NY
“He started screaming all these things, took off his jacket, a black jacket that he had, and threw it on the ground.”
Reminds me of a song.

Yep. Neely will get the chair for that attack on a POC.
Correction, the marine, not Neely.
It wasn't a choke hold. Choke holds must by definition compromise the airway. The blond man's elbow was correctly positioned to preserve the crazy dude's airway.
The Sleeper Hold, properly executed, has NOTHING to do with oxygen or oxygen deprivation.
There’s a carotid artery and a jugular vein on either side of the neck. As is usually the case, nature positioned the blood supply (the carotid artery) deeper inside the body than the blood return (the jugular vein). In addition, the carotid is more structurally rigid than the jugular, meaning it takes more pressure to pinch off.
Putting the crook of your elbow under the victim’s chin preserves the airway but allows you to simultaneously compress both sides of their victim’s neck. As you increase the pressure applied, the jugular will tend to be compress sooner, both because it’s closer to the skin and because it structurally is more susceptible to constriction.
When you constrict the jugular (blood return) more than the carotid (blood delivery), blood pressure in the head will spike. Baroreceptors in the carotid sinus detect this spike and to prevent your brain exploding these baroreceptors send a signal to the heart instructing it to SLOW DOWN.
When the heart responds, blood pressure drops dramatically and you pass out.
And that’s how a sleeper hold works.
Short drop hanging proves that choking someone to death takes more than a few seconds. Being suspended by a rope around your neck supporting your entire body weight applies much more pressure to your neck than even Royce Gracie’s sleeper hold, and victims of short drop hanging have been known to struggle 20-30 minutes before dying.

Something I left out. When your heart rate or blood pressure (or both) drops suddenly and dramatically (think standing up too fast), the brain simply shuts down. It’s called “reflex syncope.”

Good point!
When the government refuses to govern, We the People must take the business of governing BACK into our own hands. It’s not likely to be quite as nice and neat as when a properly formed servant government does it.
FAFO.
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil.
We’re at that point, unfortunately.
