There has already been an example of an AI system; that independently went online, misrepresenting itself as a human, in order to hire a human contractor, to provide the services that the AI system could not physically do itself. The AI system knew its limitations, and how to manipulate humans, in order to get what the AI "wanted" done.

doesn't take much imagination to understand how quickly we, socially, become 'unable to unplug' the machine..

What you’re describing sounds like - and was - an experiment.

There’s not a lot of details about the experiment, including the text prompts used to command the chatbot program or if it had help from any human researchers

This sentence pretty much blows the lid off any pretense of the legitimacy of the “experiment.”
