It’ll be interesting to see who replaces them.

"ending his half-century career in office"

What? He's only going to be 80. He's got lots of good years left to provide "public service."

Hogan should run for this 2024 vacancy. He, of course, has zero chance in the 2024 presidential primary. For the Senate he would have a shot.

Maryland?
Probably some woke Marxist even further left than Cardin. Hell, maybe even the first Transgender it elected to the Senate.

If Hogan runs I’ll send him $10-50. No more. It’s butts in the seats, something all Freepers should know.

Agreed. Better a RINO than a Dhimmicrat. We need to be incremental here.

I agree.

There are so many arguments on Free Republic about who is more conservative, who’s a RINO, etc.

We should all be realistic enough to know that Maryland is a liberal state, and that a staunch Conservative Republican is not going to be elected there. On the other hand Larry Hogan was twice elected as governor there.

Yes, we absolutely MUST win the Senate back in 2024.

If that means electing a few RINOs in purple states, so be it.

I agree with the sentiment, but it ain’t never gonna happen.

“In order to prevent arbitrary changes, the process for making amendments is quite onerous. An amendment may be proposed by a two-thirds vote of both Houses of Congress, or, if two-thirds of the States request one, by a convention called for that purpose. The amendment must then be ratified by three-fourths of the State legislatures, or three-fourths of conventions called in each State for ratification. In modern times, amendments have traditionally specified a time frame in which this must be accomplished, usually a period of several years. Additionally, the Constitution specifies that no amendment can deny a State equal representation in the Senate without that State’s consent.”

We could have term limits for members of Congress but it would take a constitutional amendment.

The 22nd Amendment created term limits for the presidency.

There was strong bipartisan support for that Amendment after Roosevelt was elected four times.

I don’t think there is strong bipartisan support for term limits for members of Congress. Without that an effort to pass a constitutional amendment just won’t get off the ground.
