A Saturday night roof collapse in Columbus injured more than a dozen people during a party only a block away from The Ohio State University.
At least 14 individuals were transported to the hospital after the roof of an off-campus house gave way, according to the New York Post.
Calls reporting the roof collapse summoned first responders to the scene at East 13th Avenue around 7:40 p.m.

A guy I know did home inspections. And he saw more than a few porch roofs that were held to the main structure by just a few long nails, driven in at 45 degree angles. No proper attachment at all.
The original contractor was trying to save a few dollars. No real harm done, right?

Yep I’ve heard some people insist you are supposed to say “The Ohio State University”, instead of just calling it “Ohio State”.
But I don’t know why they are so insistent that it be described that way.
And the left says there is no reason for students to learn physics, calculus, and basic engineering.
If just one STEM student had been on site the entire incident and injuries may have been avoided.
Yes. It was the porch, not the roof. Journalists are the stupidest people there are.
Its Ohio. Its crappy student housing. It goes through freeze-thaw-wet cycles. The support was probably poor/rotted, and also wasn’t designed to hold the weight of 45 people.

It was a frat house senior event. My daughter, who is on her way back from OSU today for summer break, lives down the road.
Earlier this year a OSU student died in Mexico after he went to get a girls phone on a plexiglass ledge and it gave way.

There are a ton of shoddily maintained houses all around the OSU campus area. When my son wanted to live in his own apartment there, I went looking with him, and I wouldn’t have let my dog sleep in those places, let alone my offspring. Those landlords are making money hand over fist and do next to nothing to maintain these places. The roof structures certainly aren’t meant to handle 25 kids mulling around on them. I bet there will be lawsuits.
