As I understand it, you can no longer use deadly force with the intent to wound.
Deadly force can only be justified if one feels their life / loved one’s life is in immediate danger.

Sure you can. It means there is another line to attack your justification for shooting at all.
Essentially, the question will be, if you had time to shoot to wound, why did you shoot at all? or Were they really a deadly threat, if you only had to wound them?
Most instructors say: Remember, you shot to stop the attack, not to kill, not to wound. You shot to stop the attack.
