Not a fan of the commercial, but there are a lot of superficial things Trump has said and done that make me cringe. But I don’t give a crap about cringe worthiness, my grandkids certainly won’t care about that in 20 years either. I do however spend sleepless nights thinking about the POLICIES and outright intentional planning the left and the establishment is using to destroy us.
I’m not a fan of how Trump communicated what he did, but I agree with him wholeheartedly.
Anyone with an ounce of intellectual honesty knows the 2020 election was stolen from Trump. But let’s say you are of the Rove wing of the party and claim that without forensic proof you must be a gentleman and move on. Fine, except that excuse was shot out of the sky when proof was presented that the Hunter laptop story was buried by the deep state, media, and establishment. A coordinated successful operation to tamper with an election. That’s not debatable....the proof is there...and no one is held accountable because the republicans are a bunch of political eunuchs. Poll after poll shows enough voters would have been swayed away from Biden had the laptop and it’s content been confirmed rather than advertised as another Trump lie.
DeSantis knows this and what has he done about it? Nothing. He wants to lead the republican party while ignoring all the attacks on his party from 2016 thru 2020.
But imagine if he made it clear that he believes that Trump deserves a second chance because he was cheated out of 2020 and his policies were actually working.
Imagine if DeSantis said he stands with Trump, will campaign for Trump, (as Trump once did for him), fix this country and will work to build a conservative glide path into 2028 with a party that is finally decoupling from the establishment right.
I bet Ronnie’s poll numbers would rocket to the moon and he would be essentially coronated in 2028. But all of that would require the kind of humiliation, selflessness, and character that doesn’t exist in politics. It would also serve to prove that DeSantis is NOT Bush-esque establishment trash. DeSantis has shown his hand as the campaign season unfolds. His hand holds no humility, little character, and a position much closer to Bush than MAGA.
If DeSantis were to win the nomination he won’t have the balls to withstand the avalanche of hell that will be thrust upon him from the media and the left. When they try to cheat in 2024, he will have lost any credibility to make an argument because he ignored it when it happened to Trump.
There is a big problem with ads like this. No one has any doubt that the die-hard EverTrumpers will like this - Trump could pull a Swalwell and fart into the mic at a rally, and his sycophants would claim it was the greatest fart in history. But while this ad plays to the hardcore base, those aren’t the people Trump needs to reach. He needs to get those people who like his policies, but can’t stand his personality. When his first major ad is something like this, it just reinforces all of the negative feelings a lot of people have - people whom he might otherwise be able to coax back into his camp.
Right now, based on the overall polling, it looks very much like Trump will get the nomination, and be wiped out in the general election - the Dems probably wouldn’t even need to cheat, because Trump seems so intent on alienating anyone who is not already a fervent supporter.
