There is a big problem with ads like this. No one has any doubt that the die-hard EverTrumpers will like this - Trump could pull a Swalwell and fart into the mic at a rally, and his sycophants would claim it was the greatest fart in history. But while this ad plays to the hardcore base, those aren’t the people Trump needs to reach. He needs to get those people who like his policies, but can’t stand his personality. When his first major ad is something like this, it just reinforces all of the negative feelings a lot of people have - people whom he might otherwise be able to coax back into his camp.
Right now, based on the overall polling, it looks very much like Trump will get the nomination, and be wiped out in the general election - the Dems probably wouldn’t even need to cheat, because Trump seems so intent on alienating anyone who is not already a fervent supporter.
