Every country in Europe has legitimate claims to other countries in Europe, either by demographics or history or geography.
And all have been resolved by treaties.
The Ukraine was just created by a whim and none of these issues were resolved.
Yes, this is a tight spot for the CCP: if they deny the independence of the Post-Soviet Republics, then they will cut themselves off from all of Western Civilization as almost all of Western Civilization (including Africa and Latin America) become independent due to voter demands and armed movements.
If they accept the statehood of those republics’ voter referendums, they will have to likewise accept a voter referendum taken by the citizens of Taiwan and maybe even Hong Kong….
I do not believe this is over, yet.
