Blue State Shoots Down Ban On So-Called ‘Assault Weapons’

Colorado lawmakers narrowly voted down a state House bill calling for the ban of so-called ”assault weapons” on Wednesday, in a vote that included three Democrats joining with the Republicans to defeat the measure.

The Colorado bill, HB23-1230, would have made it illegal to manufacture, import, purchase, sell, or transfer an “assault weapon” and prohibit a person from possessing a rapid-fire trigger activator. After hours of debate, the lawmakers voted down the bill in a 7-6 vote.

A local gun rights organization, the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, organized hundreds of witnesses to testify against passing the proposed “assault weapons” ban.

“The turnout was very good, overflowing into other rooms with about six to one against the ban,” Shawn Herrin, who helped organize the witnesses, told the Daily Caller News Foundation “The witnesses laid out concise arguments with good data and delved into the actual causes of mass killings.”

Meanwhile, Washington state passed a bill banning over 50 different firearms, including the popular AR-15. The law bans the sale, distribution, manufacture and import of the firearms, with certain exceptions for law enforcement and military personnel.

A representative for the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), Mark Oliva, told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the Colorado legislature’s decision “was a tremendous victory for the firearm industry and law-abiding gun owners in Colorado. This legislation was an attempt to block the sale and transfer of the nation’s most popular selling centerfire rifle today – the Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR).”

“There are more than 24.4 million of these rifles in circulation today, more than there are Ford F-150s on the road,” Oliva said. “NSSF worked tirelessly with state legislators to ensure that they understood that commonly-owned firearms are protected by the Second Amendment and that has been upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Heller and Bruen decisions.”

The ,eft feels that if you say a lie enough times, it becomes a truth

The guns civilians have are not assault weapons- not even close- they are semi automatic guns only- and assault rifle is a dual fire gun capable of fully automatic fire

They have lied about civilian guns being assault weapons so often now that many sheep think they actually are

The reason they have cha get the definition to suit their agenda is because they know that if they called them what they actuslly are, semi automatic rifles, noone would go for a ban beczuse many other guns are also semi automatic, and if they ban one semi auto, then they must ban all semi autos- but if they call the AR 15 and others like that “assault weapons” and “weapons of war”, they can hone in on one particular class of semi automatic, get their ban, then go to work banning other semi automatics later based on new lies being trotted out as new truth

The only reasonable definition of an “assault weapon” is any weapon used in an assault. That could be a rifle, pistol, knife, cricket bat, or a banana. Aesthetics or magazine capacity or rate of fire are are details. Our ancestors were happily killing each other in bunches long before the invention of gun powder. Caesar managed to kill a million Gauls with nothing but edged weapons, slings, and rock and bolt throwing artillery. It’s not a weapon problem. It’s a people problem.

Can't actually define “assault weapon.” Can't actually define “woman.” Redefines “vaccine” and even “pandemic,” and yet the Western collectivists cannot do anything other than misapply words for perverted political reasons.

I don’t own one but I would love to own one. Many years ago I got to target practice a few times with one and I loved it.

For those who don’t know, they are very light weight, easy to aim, have some power..unlike a .22 so you can effectively hunt with them, and no kickback when you fire it.

If I could afford the hobby, I would own one in a heartbeat.

I severly injured a shoulder when shooting a squelched down 10 gage with no shoulder pad. That’s why no kickback is a goodvalue.

Yep- just a souped up .22 really- there are far more powerful guns on the market- the left’s claim that they are ‘weapons of war’ and ‘assault weapons’ are just ridiculous- It really doesn’t matter how powerful a gun is- our right to self protection is God given and constitutionally affirmed as God given -

The left can’t guarantee that criminals will stop using them- and we’d be less able to defend against them if they get banned, as most people already own them- as the criminals don’t give a rip about laws-
