Before WWI... the Wilson Administration was manufacturing and encouraging anti-German propaganda that caused a lot of difficulties for loyal Americans of German descent. My wife's grandfather was from Germany and was a veteran of the US Army. He did not allow German to be spoken in their home. Over a year before we joined WWI he was fired from his job. The kids were pelted with rocks and rotten vegetables at school. While they were at church their house was burned down and they lost everything. They were run out of town. They all nearly starved, their clothes turned to rags and they nearly died from exposure.

Propaganda is not new in our society, but it has become even more effective at influencing people with new technologies to the point that our country is no longer what the founders envisioned. I fear for our future.

The reason my wife’s immediate family goes back so far is because her grandmother was 40 when her mother was born, and my wife’s mother was 42 when she was born. A little unusual, but it has caused my wife to become quite a history buff.
