A West Virginia lawmaker dealt another major blow to the Democratic Party this week by announcing his switch to the GOP.
Freshman West Virginia Delegate Elliot Pritt, who also works as a teacher, penned a letter to the House Democratic Caucus on Monday declaring that he could no longer remain a Democrat.
"I am writing to inform you of my decision to leave the Democratic Party," Pritt wrote.
"We are being pushed out," Pritt continued. "It has become more and more obvious that there is very little room in the party for traditional values or differences regarding political opinion."
Pritt noted that he did not come to a decision hastily but that "after weeks of personal consideration, soul searching, and discussion with my family," he concluded that leaving the party would be the best move to continue representing those in his district.
"I can no longer in good conscience remain a Democrat," he added. "I simply cannot continue down the road that the Democratic Party is headed if I am to accurately represent my constituents and my people as well as my own conscience."
Could Mansion save himself by flipping?
The Democrat party should be recognized as not having a place in American society.

Manchin would be the most left-wing RINO in the Senate if he switched parties.
I think he’s up for reelection in 2024.
I know little of West Virginia politics. I hear he was a popular former governor, and has been elected and re elected to the Senate, even though he’s a Democrat in a Republican leaning state. So is it that he’s personally popular, and as such he can be reelected even with Democrats being out of touch with West Virginia politics and values?
This is by design from the Democrat party. Just like refugees from far-left states to the Red states. They are immigrating and assimilating into our party to further dilute our votes.
It has happened in Georgia.
Not disagreeing but at this point, i’d take it if it helps wrest the senate control from the dems, i’ll take it.
So he’s finally realizing that the democrats have turned into totalitarian authoritarians?
He won’t win reelection. He only got 49% in 2018.
That’s a good question. Every. Single. County. Went to Trump in 2020.
This is a WV legislature member. There’s almost no Demonrats left in it, just 11 out of 100 in their House (and of those 11, 5 of them won by less than 10% of the vote).
It would be suicidally stupid to let them into the GOP and therein water down the platform. Better they should be made to form their own third party, which would split the demoncrat vote but leave the GOP untainted (such as it is).
Just like the gazillions fleeing the Blue states. They’re not abandoning their socialism, they’re just fleeing to somewhere where the socialism hasn’t yet trashed the economy. They’ll continue to vote looney lefty once they’ve got there.
Yes, but giving the GOP control of the committees and the agenda would be valuable. It doesn’t matter if he’s an outright Commie, just as long as he caucuses with the GOP.
Fair point, but don’t expect anything else out of him.
Also consider that in his last Senate election, he got <50% of the vote. He’s up for reelection in 2024. I’d rather replace his sorry ass with an actual Republican. If he does switch, I sure won’t vote for him in the Primary.
and why do they keep voting for a flaky senator?
We dont need anymore fake republicans to hold stuff hostage to get a vote. No more McCainiacs. No more Snowes.
He saved Brandon’s Inflation Reduction Act, which directly hurts WV. No. He can’t save himself. He’s retiring, whether he wants to or not. WV Gov is weighing whether to run against him for his seat, I hear. If he does, it’s over for Manson.
So he’ll be retiring due to ill health. The voters got sick of him.

What you said.
