Devon Dontray Dunham has been found not guilty of murder in the shooting death of unarmed former volunteer fire chief Ernest Martin Stevens, 77, despite his confession and 19 witnesses taking the stand against him.
The shooting took place near Stevens' home in Hardeeville, South Carolina on Aug 10, 2017.
According to Dunham's lawyer, an armed Dunham "wanted a ride" from Stevens and approached him while he was sitting in his Ford F-150 in a parking lot "but felt threatened" by him and saw him "reach for something" so he decided to unload all 8 rounds of his 9 mm handgun into Stevens' truck before running away.
Dunham struck Stevens with four bullets that hit his jaw, left arm, back and chest and fatally injured his heart and lung.
Stevens was unarmed.
Dunham initially lied to police and "denied knowing anything about the shooting" and "said he wasn't in the city at the time" before confessing and claiming he "wasn't trying to hurt him" when he unloaded into his car.
Dunham appears to have been acquitted because his lawyer made vague insinuations that racism may have been at play. Even though said insinuations were swiftly shut down by the judge, at least one member of the jury appears to have decided that was all they needed to hear and found him not guilty after less than 2 hours of deliberations.

In this case, a black man approached a truck, claims he saw the elderly white trucker "reach for something," and so shot and killed him. He said he was "in fear for his life" and claimed self-defense (based on nothing it seems to me). He was acquitted.
In the Yarl case, a black youth starts banging on an elderly white man's door at 10 p.m.. The white man was "in fear for his life," and shot and wounded the black youth.
* Seems to me that Yarl had greater cause to fear for his life than did Dunham.
* Yarl wounded the black youth. Dunham killed the white man.
* Yet Dunham was acquitted. Yarl is already convicted by the media, politicians, and "the community."
Sometimes, I can only wonder if Forrest was wrong.
When do the riots start?
Yarl is the kid, not the shooter.
Ralph Yarl was the young black kid who was shot by Andrew Lester.
Oh, I see. /s
Okay, my bad on that.
It’s called juror nullification. It happened in the OJ case.
Nancy Pelosi: “Andrew Lester will have a chance to prove his innocence...”
Please..
Because you cite a miscarriage of justice, you think Yarl should be acquitted?
I am about done with this nonsense... for nearly 30 years every time some gun owner does something incredibly stupid, folks crawl out of the woodwork trying justify it or blame the person they shot....
Now folks want to play race cards as well to justify the unjutifiable?
Sorry folks, Yarl did a completely unjustifiable thing.. Both legally and morally, and there is no defense for it.
I will defend the right to bare arms, but when a gun owner does something insanely stupid and illegal I am not going to defend them for it. Yarl did a stupid and indefensible, illegal thing, and frankly just given those who want to take away your guns more ammo to try to do so.
“Sorry folks, Yarl did a completely unjustifiable thing.. Both legally and morally, and there is no defense for it.”
Yes, I believe that Yarl should be found innocent since there is no legal prohibition against ringing a doorbell at night.
Yarl is the kid.
Bump.
So I can look back later and see who posts “you are racist”.
The “All” category is pretty misleading in that black males are a small percentage of population.
15-24 age group blacks murder at a rate 25 times that of whites. Which is still too many young, white murderers. But again, it is 25 times less than blacks. So, there’s that...
Can't find the make up of the jury, but it's obvious what happened.
I live 25 miles from where the murders happened in Dadeville.
Have refrained from posting my thoughts on social media in respect for the victims.
But yeah. It’s exactly what I knew to be true when it happened.
That horrid witch keeps bringing up USSR rules of law.
