You may not have heard of Vivek Ramaswamy, but he is a worthy heir to Trump. | Opinion
Lexington Herald Leader ^ | 4.20.2023 | Steve Nussbaum

Most of you are probably not familiar with the name “Vivek Ramaswamy.” He is currently the least-well known Republican presidential primary candidate. But that will undoubtedly change after the first GOP presidential primary debate in August.

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a total Trump supporter: I’m all in for Trump in 2024. In fact, I believe Trump is the ONLY presidential candidate across all political parties who can restore this country to its position of worldwide prominence and leadership we enjoyed during his first term. But, after listening to Mr. Ramaswamy — the son of immigrants from India — I believe I’ve found the true “future Trump.” Like Trump, he’s a successful, worldwide businessman with an acute awareness of social, economic and foreign policy matters. He is brilliant, articulate and knowledgeable about public- and private-sector issues, both foreign and domestic. He offers a sincere, spontaneous delivery that will enable him to shine at the August debates. And he will undoubtedly be a valuable asset in the next Trump administration. I urge you to learn more about this amazing individual in his quest for high political office.

In my opinion — and in the view of many - our country and Constitution is currently under siege by those advocating Communist ideologies antithetical to the American way of life: culturally, spiritually, economically and educationally. During his first term, Trump exposed and brought to prominence the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). In fact, historians may well view this feat as one of the most important accomplishments of Trump’s presidency. Over the past thirty years, the CCP has infiltrated this country’s institutions — such as the recent Justice Department arrest of two Chinese nationals accused of running a police operation in New York to silence dissidents — abetted by foreign and domestic actors who hate this country, as well as politicians who are either too greedy or too weak to stand up to this pernicious, existential threat to our way of life.

Only Trump’s America First paradigm can counter this anti-American trend and restore the values and prosperity that has made the United States the greatest country in world history. Many advocates of Trump’s America First manifesto have names like Patel, Ramaswamy, Luna, Reyes, etc. I think it’s ironic and amusing that these first- and second-generation legal immigrants may well be the most likely saviors of our nation. These immigrants have the most profound understanding of and appreciation for the freedoms this country has to offer. By their own accounts, many of these immigrants left their home countries like Cuba, Venezuela, Eastern Europe, etc. to escape the economic carnage and loss of individual liberties imposed under Socialist regimes.

By contrast, it seems our younger generations have little respect for the U.S. Constitution and the freedoms this document bestows. They believe climate change is a more existential threat than the CCP; that instant gratification is a more important value than hard work and freedom; that the government should run our lives and bestow our rights instead of Almighty God; and that the Constitution is an inconvenient document whose amendments can be shredded when conditions suit.

Like many of my conservative ideologues, I believe that Generations X, Y and Z are preoccupied with important issues like abortion rights, gun control and concerns about climate change to the detrimental minimization or utter disregard for such issues as voter integrity, inflation, flagrant governmental over-spending, Biden’s border policies, the threat of China’s impending world dominance and our acknowledged loss of world-wide prestige starting with the administration’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. Perhaps it’s time to raise the voting age to 35! Otherwise, I suggest our younger folks start learning how to speak Mandarin.

ARTICLE 2

Section ONE

Clause 5

addresses who is ELIGIBLE to be President.

A big fuss came up over McCain being born when his father was on military duty out of the country.

Those children ARE ELIGIBLE.

The applicable 1730 British law as of early 1776 required a natural-born father.

Natural-born most probably means born as a domestic citizen without foreign citizenship.

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President”

See my post#33. Being born on U.S. soil is the only unambiguous qualifier. Otherwise, where is the starting point of citizenship? The colonies were started by immigrants (not U.S. citizens) Applying your premise, their offspring could not be natural born US citizens either. Hence, all subsequent generations would not be as well. What is the cutoff point?

A CITIZEN can do alot of things-—and has alot of privileges

ONLY A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN CAN BE PRESIDENT OR HOLD ANY OFFICE THAT CAN SUCCEED PRESIDENT

It is 2 different things.

citizen - yes

born a citizen - yes

natural-born citizen - subject to legal clarification

There was a 1730 British law that defined natural-born citizen. On July 3rd, 1776, the law was 100% clear in all 13 colonies. The US Constitution must be construed consistent with that 1730 law.

“Being born on U.S. soil...”

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President...”

The second part deals with your concern.

They (and many were lawyers) could have written:

No person, except a citizen of the United States at birth or at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President...

Agree. Back when immigrants came to America they were kept on Ellis Island. They were clearly told we expected them to assimilate. Almost every President before Obama had family that goes back over many years here. I suggest we insist that some family member must have fought for the USA in combat.
