The First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pavliuk, announced in a Telegram post that Patriot missile defense systems from the US, the Netherlands, and Germany have arrived in Ukraine. These systems are expected to help protect against Russian cruise missiles and UAV attacks. Pavliuk thanked the partner countries for significantly strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

Ukraine's Defense Minister expressed his gratitude to the🇺🇸American,🇩🇪German, and🇳🇱Dutch people for the Patriot air defense system. He confirms that they arrived in Ukraine. https://t.co/WBP28Od6hW

The US first announced the transfer of Patriot systems to Ukraine in December 2022 as part of the regular military assistance package. Additionally, the Netherlands also announced the delivery of Patriot missile defense systems and missiles to Ukraine.

In late March, Ukrainian military personnel completed training on the Patriot missile defense system in the US, earlier than expected.

Why?

It makes perfect sense to me. These are meant to supplement Ukraine’s S300 based air defense. It’s a strategic necessity for Ukraine.

so you’re opposed to people fighting against military oppression when their country’s survival is threatened?

so you think Washington and the young U.S. should just have surrendered to the British, rather than more “insane” fighting?

No, I think it is a very bad idea to supply our Patriot system to Ukraine because it prolongs a conflict that should be settled by a cease fire ASAP.

Ukraine is not going win this one.

The Patriots will drain dwindling US resources at time when we cannot afford to replace them due to economic constraints, they will just prolong the conflict to inflict more death and destruction on both the Ukrainian people and the Russians but will not change the eventual outcome, and in the end the Patriots systems will probably end up in Russian hands.

If I had any confidence that the Patriot deployment was being used to strengthen the Ukrainian leverage to get the best negotiated settlement this summer, I would be all for it. But that is not what is going to happen

What will most likely happen is that the irreplaceable Patriot systems will be squandered to no good purpose in a futile gesture just like all the rest of the advanced technology weapons systems we have gifted to the Ukraine. When the Russians over run the Ukrainians, then they will capture what is left of the Patriot systems .

Patriot systems we taxpayers funded?

Who before Trump pointed out such abuses?

Patriots are a tactical necessity to prolong the war in Ukraine as long as possible until the inevitable Ukrainian military collapse.

They are a strategic disaster because the longer the conflict persists, the weaker and more totally destroyed the Ukraine becomes and the less leverage they have to get the best cease fire terms possible.

I don’t see any possibility of negotiations as long as Zelensky and his crew are running things under the Biden Administration -

This is the problem. Zelensky, his crew, the Biden Admin and the NATO officials pushing this war are dead enders like Hitler in his bunker.

They cannot back down because backing down means they are over with and lose their positions and powers so they keep pushing the war and could care less about the death and destruction they are inflicting on the Ukraine and it's people. The longer this conflict goes, the greater the sunk costs become for both sides and the less assets and capitol both have remaining to pay to resolve the sunk costs they have wasted in this adventure. It's like a bitter legal battle where the animosity and massive legal bills generated preclude any mutually satisfactory negotiated settlement and both sides grind it out to the bitter end in hopes of a big win.

Sadly, in this case it is looking more and more like Russia with be the last man standing so they will win the dubious privilege to rule in the ashes of what once was the Ukraine. And just when things were starting to turn around for the better economically for the Ukraine. What a tragedy

We disagree about the “inevitable Ukrainian military collapse”.

From my POV the likely range of results are an armistice on the current terrain or the same on ground more favorable to Ukraine. In either case Ukrainian air defense will be vital, as it has been so far.

A Russian victory on ground more favorable to them seems highly unlikely given the vast resource mismatch. The longer this goes on the greater the Ukrainian preponderance will be, technologically and materially, as the “West” (the world, really) upgrades and mobilizes their military production. The era of beating swords into ploughshares is over.

Yep, there’s absolutely zero chance that Western taxpayers will TIRE OF THE ENDLESS RIVER OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF THEIR WEALTH FLOWING TO THE UKRAINIAN RULERS.

There is no “endless river of billions”, as the cost of this whole thing is a rounding error in the US/Euro/global economy.

Note: billions aren’t what they used to be. Figure it all as % of budgets, or of gdp. Even just the planned Euro defense budget increases, for their own forces, are multiples of what’s going to Ukraine.

Yep, TENS OF BILLIONS HERE, TENS OF BILLIONS THERE, RINSE AND REPEAT… soon they’ll add up to a “ROUNDING ERROR”.

You Neocons, DemocRATS and assorted Ukrainian GRIFTERS are so PREDICTABLE. You revel in GRIFTED mountains of OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY.

Oh, I’m sorry, other people’s rounding errors.

Let’s take it slowly.

Go examine the US Federal Budget. You should, you know.

Now figure what degree of waste, fraud and abuse there is in the various parts of it. Now, removing transfer payments (TBD in more detailed analysis), add up your estimate of the potential of that waste, fraud and abuse. Personally, I put it at 30-50%.

Then compare that vs Ukraine aid. And then calibrate your distribution of emotion based on sound mathematical principles.

And that’s just a start. For a proper cardiac infarction as a result of apoplectic rage, let us analyze US medical spending. And then US education, should you wish to die very quickly indeed.

Like I said, you GRIFTERS are incredibly predictable. Peddle your “rounding error” silliness elsewhere.
