Incredible close combat video shows Russian soldiers hurling grenades in attempt to storm trenches - before they are gunned down in no-mans-land during Ukrainian fightback

The video, originally 11 minutes long, starts with the Ukrainian forces turning off from a stretch of open land. Around the bunker are dead and dying trees. Smoke billows in the distance.

The forces - claimed to be among the best trained and equipped of the volunteer corps - enter a bunker dug into the ground and speak with allied soldiers. A fallen soldier is identified and one reflects, 'yes brother, that's how it is in war'.

The soldiers take a moment of respite in the trench as one - later called 'Lekha' - digs into the ground at the mouth of the dug out. Seemingly without warning, a grenade goes off nearby and Lekha falls on his stomach.

Peers check on Lekha and the camera cuts to somebody radioing in the assault. They get to their feet and push their way out of the enclosed space as explosives fly overhead.

The cameraman moves around the trench, behind a knoll for cover. From the high ground, he targets a number of Russian soldiers in the prone position trying to get away.

The Battle for Bakhmut has turned the city and surrounding areas into a hellscape over the last eight-and-a-half months.

The city sits on an important intersection of supply routes and, when fighting started in May 2022, was judged a vital staging point for assaults deeper into Donbas.

Russian forces have also clung on to the city's symbolic importance after a string of setbacks last year.

Hang on - I was told it was a useless piece of territory and like the 58th largest city in Ukraine that Russia was stupidly trying to take.

Yes they are massacring each other in earnest.
Here is a video of a bunch of Ukrainian soldiers under a direct hit by Russian artillery.

And 1 of Ukraine soldiers surrendering after taking a possible KIA.

Bloody war needs to stop, we are only seeing videos for the most part from one side’s view. If Ukraines offensive doesn’t work they should seek peace terms IMHO.

Southern Russians killing eastern Russians. An ugly fratricide.

...he targets a number of Russian soldiers in the prone position trying to get away.

Hard to get away in the prone position.

I watched that vid one Funker530 and it was...tense. Neighboring trench radios in the Russians are in the trench, The guy with the shovel survives a grenade, then the section leader NCO, who is wearing the POV cam, tries to top exit the bunker only to spot a Russian throwing grenade at him from only 20 feet away...everyone ducks, the grenade goes off, and the NCO pops out again, flanks the attacker and shoots him and 2-4 other guys. Then he yells at the squad (they were about 10 seconds away from being massacred en-masse by grenade) to get out and keep the Russians off the flanks - constantly telling them where to point, ordering people to shoot at visible targets and conserve ammo, stop shooting into neighboring friendly trenches and watch 12 oclock, while constantly harassing the attackers, changing mags, radioing nearby bunkers - artillery falls all around, someone gets a drone working - then he calls in an artillery strike on the ditch the Russians are sneaking up, spots another Russian leopard crawling and kills him, makes sure ammo gets loaded into mags and the spares stripped from the dead guys. And so on. People commenting on his marksmanship have no idea what it’s like.

Just another day in the life - while it lasts. That NCO certainly lives up to the credo of making sure the enemy dies for their country. Those soldiers for sure would have died in the first 10 seconds if the NCO hadn’t joined the party.
