The entire convoluted situation can be traced back to Libya.
The French oil company Total (and Italian ENI) lost the contract to manage and collect money from the Libyan oil fields. Khadaffi selected PetroChina instead. Total and ENI immediately went to their govts who pushed the whole matter through NATO, and Hillary signed on.
The Russians and Chinese would not sign onto a UN resolution for an Iraq-style multi-national force to move into Libya, but they would allow a UN resolution devoted to the protection of civilians through the use of air forces. Time passed, the price of oil rose, Khadaffi would not surrender and the price of flight sorties increased. Next thing you know, “protection of civilians” became “kill Khadaffi” by attacking military headquarters that might threaten civilians.
Both Russia and China went public saying they would never again abstain from another UN vote on such matters because the US could not be trusted.
Khadaffi was killed as part of the process to liberate Libyan oil and next thing you know Hillary wants a UN resolution to eliminate Assad in Syria (and liberate their oil too). Russia said no. Not just no but hell, no.
So Nuland was pointed at creating the 2014 coup in Ukraine, as a form of retaliation against Russia’s position in Syria.
