Germany ends nuclear era as last reactors power down

Berlin (AFP) – Germany will switch off its last three nuclear reactors on Saturday, exiting atomic power even as it seeks to wean itself off fossil fuels and manage an energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.

While many Western countries are upping their investments in atomic energy to reduce their emissions, Germany is bringing an early end to its nuclear age.

Europe's largest economy has been looking to leave behind nuclear power since 2002, but the phase-out was accelerated by former chancellor Angela Merkel in 2011 after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan.

The exit decision was popular in a country with a powerful anti-nuclear movement, stoked by lingering fears of Cold War conflict and atomic disasters such as Chernobyl in Ukraine.

"The risks of nuclear power are ultimately unmanageable," said Environment Minister Steffi Lemke, who this week made a pilgrimage to the ill-fated Japanese plant ahead of a G7 meeting in the country.

There are far safer nuclear reactors, such as the Pebble Bed version. If we accept the flawed theory of Global Warming, safe nuclear is the best, “Greenest” alternative. Germany is making (yet another) horrible mistake.

“and manage an energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. “

False. Intentionally caused by the government.

Political. A real greenie would install solar panels on the rubble.
France shuts them down too.. then restate them when the opium masses start to squawk.

When does the dog stop wagging?
When it freezes to death.
The tail dies when the dog does

This works out well. I understand Biden is having a sale on American Freedom Fuel. Each barrel comes with an order of extra large Freedom Fries.

Global warming and it’s successor, green energy, are the two mass delusions of our time.

If Germany had spent their money on nuclear power rather than solar and wind, their energy crisis would be over.

You cannot sustain a manufacturing economy with wind.

There are many stereotypes for the German, but I never realized “dumb and dumber” was one of them. Until now.

When they inevitably starve and freeze in the dark — ‘cause the sun don’t shine and the wind don’t blow so much in Germany — may their privation bring them to understanding and repentance.

The 6% of their electricity that these three nuclear power plants supplied to Germany last year combined with a very unusually warm winter got Germany through this past winter. I suspect that their LUCK won’t continue to that degree … and more INTERMITTENT wind power won’t be their salvation.

Yep, and not the only two mass delusions, but the two that spawned (and are funding) the rest. With them the world shifted from worshiping the Creator to worshiping the planet He created.

For the Germans, woke emotionalism and moral corruption has trumped old school German logic.

The French deploy nuclear, safe. The US navy deploys nuclear (subs, aircraft carriers), safe.

There is little wrong with clean coal, natural gas, and oil/gasoline. CO2 stimulates plant growth and turns the world green. Nature’s carbon sinks are literally everywhere, especially the oceans that cover 70% of the earth’s surface. The effect on global temperature? Most likely, zero.

There was a nice video on the Epoch Times (Facts Matter). Roman listed 32 failed environmental predictions, saying that hundreds were available.

The German people are paying through the nose for electricity when they can get it and freezing when they can’t and then they allow their ‘leaders’ to eliminate the only reliable source of electrical production. WTF is wrong with these people?

Merkel and the others who perpetrated this fiasco should be rotting corpses at the end of a rope and a dozen new nukes should be under construction right now.

Germany ends nuclear era as last reactors power down and cuts its energy throat in a national effort at collective suicide to appease ideologues.
