Recently, I’ve come to terms with the likelihood that Donald Trump will (gulp!) be the Republican presidential nominee, again. That’s right, it may only be April, but I’ve entered the “Jesus Take The Wheel” stage for the 2024 campaign.
Call it naive wishcasting, but until recently, I thought that Ron DeSantis might help us avoid this very situation. But the last month or so has not gone well. DeSantis’ rocky rollout (technically, he still hasn’t entered the race), coupled with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s indictment, have elevated Trump to clear frontrunner status.
Trump Wants to Turn His Most Toxic Baggage Into Primary Gold
While there are a million reasons to fear Trump winning the Republican nomination, I am comforting myself by the fact that there could be a silver lining: If the goal is to truly eradicate Trumpism, the most obvious method is for Trump to win the Republican nomination, and then (this part is important) he must be decisively defeated.
It has been observed that political parties do not change until they have endured multiple losses. If that is true of normal parties, it is doubly true of a MAGA movement headed by Donald Trump.
As a Never Trump conservative, I never wanted to have to come to grips with this scenario. I would love for someone to wrest control of the GOP from Trump, but it is looking increasingly unlikely that Republicans are capable of stopping Trump from once again winning their presidential nomination.

Another democrat farts and thinks he’s intelligent
You personal comments - well stated. The RINO’s want defeat, they love second place. And they don’t give a rats ass about their constituents welfare.
And it won't be anyone we know now. Especially not Trump. He will have learned from Trump's rhetoric and the public's reaction to it (the people who matter) but he will have the energy, cunning and, most importantly, the ability to live with that level of danger and will be willing to lose it all for the movement (notice I don't say country, that's long dead). Trump lost a lot, but he wasn't willing to lose it all. Ironically, though, he may in the end.
The window, however, is narrow and closing quickly.
“Trump will be known as the most vetted President in human history.”
That is a very keen observation.
I had never really thought of it in that light.
They’re living their best Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama era with Biden!
And they brought us the greatness of Bush,Dole,Bush,McCain, Romney!!
And boy didn’t that list, maybe minus Dole, turn out to be pure Swamp.
Never Trumper Rs are the enemy to MAGA, America First and Americans First
Glad Trump is messing with their wretched hive of scum and villainy.
R party as affected as the D party
:)
One wonders if he has Epstein-type skeletons in his closet.
Consider the source….
Ya-who?
All of my hope for the GOP was shattered on Jan 6, 2021.
There is no recovering from that.
The GOP destroyed a LOT more than their own party on that day.
I voted for Trump twice, and I would do it again... but I have lost a lot of confidence in him over his position on the jab and his misguided priorities since being out of office.
I’m looking up at this point... not to DC.
Another democrat posts more dribble
If you want to see the GOP lose every election for the next century, rig the primaries so a RINO wins, or sandbag Trump in the general again.
I like DeSantis personally. I'd like for him to debate Trump in the primaries and hope he runs again in 2028. But without Trump voters, the GOP is reduced to third party status.
And the beat goes on.......
The 2024 election isn’t about Trump, the GOP, etc.
It’s one goal:
ELECT BIDEN SO HARRIS CAN BECOME PRESIDENT
“One wonders if he has Epstein-type skeletons in his closet.”
You do mean the writer correct
Aye.
let me answer with a little smile
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
There is no such thing as a Never Trump Conservative.
If you are for Trump, you are a conservative.
If you are a conservative, you are for Trump.
If you are a Romney type rino, you spout the Never Trump Conservative crap.
This guy is Anti-Trumpism. My question is, what is wrong with Trumpism?
“Call it naive wishcasting, but until recently, I thought that Ron DeSantis might help us avoid this very situation. “
Ron De Sanctimonious?
No thank you.
The only saving grace will be if Trump uses his candidacy - even in defeat - to shine an unbreakable spotlight on the two-party cabal and its machinations. He can do this better than any other candidate, but it will require him to correctly identify the enemy and go after them. I fear Trump has too much to lose (his companies) to make that many waves.
Why would any of us even consider voting for the existing incumbent politicians of the Republican Party because 90 percent of them are Globalists openly or ultimately in their hearts?
They put the Business and Banking Chamber of Commerce interests first and foremost.
They follow the will of the money, not the will of the people who elect them.
God Bless President Trump but even if he endorses the likes of Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott and the list goes on I would never vote for them anytime under any circumstances.
Who is this yob?
