ICC arrest warrant for Putin a big dilemma for South African government

The South African government has elected to consider allowing Vladimir Putin's remote attendance to the 2023 BRICS summit ion an effort to navigate the bureaucratic headache that the Russian leader's presence risks due to the warrant of arrest issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for his capture, News24 reports.

According to City Press, a hybrid sitting is under consideration for the summit which would allow multiple leaders, including Putin, to attend the event virtually.

A government official said: "The Ramaphosa administration is the one that revoked the earlier decision to leave the ICC and decided the country would stay. So they can't now go against their own decision by allowing Putin to come. They would not want to take decisions that might harm the interest of the country in the long term. South Africa does not want to be a pariah state."

Per the ICC's jurisdiction under the Rome Statue, South Africa is obliged to arrest Putin should he enter the country.

If it’s no big deal, then why is Putin scared to attend?

“Maybe he should “sanction them”, like America, the world’s hall monitor does.”

You just wish that Russia had enough strength to issue the rest of the world orders, but you know that nobody would pay any attention to Russia, the new Sick Man of Europe.

and Russian would not do a thing, because to attack the ICC would be to attack NATO,

As per my previous posts - you're saying that the US would attack NATO?

Do you even read your posts before you make them?

“you’re saying that the US would attack NATO?”

No, I’m saying the US would not have to attack NATO, because when we make a threat like that, an organization like the ICC will back off. If Russia made a threat like that, the ICC would laugh at them, because the ICC is located in a NATO member state, and thus under the NATO umbrella, which makes them impervious to Russia for all intents and purposes.

South Africa, arrests the President of Russia. Dream on... LOL.

If they do, that’ll be the last thing they ever do. They’ll even be wishing for the good old days before apartheid ended.

Ramaphosa is an old Soviet supporter especially at the KGB’s front, the World Peace Council.

Yeah, the idea that the modern South African government would arrest Putin is a neocon fever swamp pipe dream. The idea that it even makes them feel cornered is even silly.
I also saw today someone saying India would join us in a war against China, making up for our lack of raw numbers.

A lot of people have really fallen out of touch with how the rest of the world regards us these days.
