Authorities in Houston, Texas say a gang of armed robbers targeted a Valero gas station and convenience store on the city’s southeast side late Thursday night, but were stopped by an armed citizen who opened fire.
Police responded to the store shortly before 9 p.m., where witnesses told them that a car with five individuals inside had pulled in to the station. Four of the men got out of the vehicle and entered the store, with the fifth man remaining behind the wheel. Once inside, the four pulled out guns and demanded customers and employees hand over their cash. That’s when one customer drew their own gun and fired. Three of the would-be robbers were hit by the armed citizen’s shots, though police say a customer was also injured in the exchange of gunfire between the armed citizen and armed robbers. It’s not known at this point who fired the shot that injured the bystander, but thankfully they’re expected to be okay.
The local media in Houston are downplaying the armed citizen aspect of this story to the point of absurdity. Here are a few of the headlines about the incident:

The perps? Walk, and an appearance on The View.
Hope the good guy isn't the one who shot the innocent bystander!

“3 out of 4 ain’t bad!”
I suspect it was hard to be in a fire-fight with several armed robbers while trying to determine who was an innocent by-stander and who was a part of the robbing crew. I say give him an award for bravery and a job well done! He could have just walked away and pretended to see nothing at all. True men step up and do the hard things that need to be done!
“He could have just walked away...”
With four bad guys having their guns out - you never know.
They would probably taken his gun if he had not opened fire.
If the perps were white, this article would have likely pointed that out.
Glad to see no moronic “Needs more range time” post at this time.
Needs more range time. 😎
The proper way to start would have been to neutralize the driver or the vehicle. If he was outside that would be the start. After that, he defends the side of the escape vehicle. If he was inside, he was crazy brave.
Robbers with drawn guns have made clear their willingness to kill everyone there. The clerk and customers, even the wounded bystander, owe the armed citizen for saving their lives.
I disagree. Driving is a low-skill task. Any of the others can easily take the place of the driver. And, a gas station has plenty of vehicles which can be stolen for a quick getaway.

That’s for sure. Any criminal that is willing to go into a store and pull a gun demanding money, is willing to pull the trigger.
I feel a sense of comfort when I see the familiar print of a concealed carry pistol beneath the shirt of a an obvious Alpha male when grocery shopping. Some people may panic, but most normal people can tell the difference between someone carrying with intent to cause harm, and someone carrying with the intent of being prepared to stop harm.
I have never heard of anyone who stopped a threat saying afterwards, “I wish I hadn’t had my gun with me”. However, I have heard people say, “I left my firearm in the vehicle. I wish I had carried it with me when I went inside the store. Maybe I could have stopped the carnage”.

The good citizen was 22, the perps ages 15 to 18.
We have to change the thug culture in this nation. Young people in inner cities have been taught that such actions are just a normal way to get some cash and chances of punishment is slight. Especially for those under-aged. One of the most dire needs for our future elections is to vote out the Soros D.A.s and anti-police mayors. The other main issue is education and taking over school boards so we can insist that children be once again taught to read and write. If something is not done soon, citizens are going to take matters into their own hands.
The young hero here did not retreat and call the cops, he handled matters on his own. That’s a big responsibility for a 22 year old and I tip my hat at him for taking it on. Soon we may find vigilantes working to stop the threat before it arrives at the local convenience store. At that point, we will know that our society has truly gone past the point of return.
I was thinking a shooter at my back if I went in. The guy did very well.

That’s true. Plus you run the risk of letting the inside-the-store robbers become aware that there is a threat to them. They could then run out and jump into the car of an innocent by-stander such as a young woman with a child in her car once realizing their designated driver is “unavailable”. The reason the driver was probably assigned the driving duty was due to the fact they weren’t sure if he would be up to the robbing part of the crime. Nope. Taking out the immediate threat to the clerk and any customers was the best decision.
Kudos to the 22 year-old hero. As my dear departed father used to say “Kid, you done good”!
Gun grabbers are probably going to count this as just yet another mass shooting, which is just yet more reason to ban guns. Except it’s the exact opposite, a mass intervention, which is precisely why we need to retain or even expand defensive rights.
Good guy with a gun is what is needed when a bad guy has a gun.
No, the proper way to act is to neutralize the threat. The threat was four armed individuals committing an armed robbery. Any Soros or Democrat DA would charge you with assault with a deadly weapon for neutralizing the driver, if he was not an active threat.
