They can simply adopt a rule that allows them to decide who is seated, like the US House.

This is who the white house supports. Remember, that sniffin’ joe sent his #2 to Tennessee to wail and moan, and to give support to the uncivilized brutes.

Tn legislators need to keep triggering this mope into a meltdown - nothing overt but normal day to day operations, like decorum, mutual respect, and punctuality which he will consider rrrrraaaaayyyycccccis

>removing even the most vile elected representative by any means other than formal impeachment

You can't remove US Senators or Reps via impeachment, just by formal expulsion. I do agree with being wary of using expulsion for other than extreme cases and with letting the electorate's will rule in all but the most extreme cases. Yet the need for the possibility of expulsion is clear. And the framers of the 14th recognized the potential need for broader banning, given something as extreme as The Civil War, with section 3. But initially broad brush of §3 was greatly narrowed after just a few years and even the high ranking insurrectionists were eventually spared by the needed 2/3 vote of Congress. Those promoting such remedies today should strive to remain proportionate with the sparse historical precedents for their use. Just as the framers learned from British experience to be very limited in charing treason.

Haven’t you heard? Democrats are allowed three assaults on Republicans before they get their wrist slapped.

Well that seems a tad harsh. But, saving democracy can be painful.....😁👍

But the once the rules of the game change, play the game as it is.

If the fight is dirty, fight dirty.

However, this was horrible optics. Forcing out a black state legislature in the South is just bad politics. There are other ways to handle it.

Especially when you don't force out the white one, who should have also been kicked out.

Really really bad optics.

We just gave them martyrs. Young, black, (two at least) ‘victims of racist Republicans’- at least that’s how they are going to play it (they would be stupid not to).

Winning a battle that is going to cost a lot more in the long-term (and makes little practical difference as far as policy).

Stripping them of committee assignments would have been every bit as effective and fair ‘payback’.

It will be interesting to hear that little fact spun as not being racist, for sure.

“none of it is for the greater good of the Republic.”

Throwing the people out who hate Republican government is always a good idea. Your position is akin to letting cancer spread so you don’t have to cut the patient

It’s silly.

Johnson was standing with them and part of the group, but wasn’t actually doing the bullhorn thing. Still, it’s not like there were a large difference in votes between the three.

https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2023/04/07/tennessee-three-how-lawmakers-voted-in-house-expulsion-debate/70090795007/

Justin Jones, expelled on a 72-25 vote.

Gloria Johnson, expulsion fails by one vote, 65-30 vote; 66 votes needed

Justin Pearson, expelled on 69-26 vote

Honestly, this is just ignorant pearl clutching on your part.

Expulsion is the traditional and legal method for legislatures to discipline their members who forget decorum.

Not a thing wrong with it and if Jones acts contrary to the house rules of behavior again, they should expel him again and continue to do so until somebody primaries him.
