Zelensky condemns Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian apartment building

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned a Russian missile strike that he said killed two people, including a child, in a Zaporizhzhia apartment building on Sunday.

“Tonight, the Russian army shelled Zaporizhzhia with S-300 missiles. They hit a house, an apartment building. Three people were inside. A man, a woman and a child — a girl, her name was Iryna, she would have turned 11 this year. She died. The man died too,” Zelensky said in an address to Ukrainians, adding that the woman is in critical condition.

“This is how the terrorist state spends this Palm Sunday. This is how Russia puts itself in even greater isolation from the world, from humanity. Every bright Christian holiday teaches us that we may not know how, but we must be sure that evil will lose,” Zelensky said.

Not sure what he’s complaining about. Apartments buildings get hit pretty regularly in this war killing both Ukrainian and Russian civilians.

It is just not fair for the Rooskies to use missiles, only the US led Ukes can do that.

What nonsense! This war started with Russia attacking, not Ukraine. The Russians go home and this war ends. Problem solved.

No. The war started in 2014 when the US sponsored a coup against the elected government and installed the Nazis that are currently in power.

“S-300 missiles”

Why are the Russians using anti-aircraft missiles on buildings?

This sounds like the incident where an anti-aircraft missile was shot by Ukraine and unfortunately killed several Polish people.

If the missile was correctly identified (in both incidences) you can bet it was a stray missile.

I don’t think either side is targeting random apartment buildings on purpose.

The war started with eight years of artillery shelling of ethnic Russian civilians in the Donbas by the murderers headquartered in Kiev. Those Donbas civilians voted for autonomy from Kiev and were murdered for their choice.

Russia LIBERATED eastern Ukraine from the killers. People in Donbas want it to STAY THAT WAY with Russia defending their alignment with Russia.

This is exactly why the American Revolution was fought - to allow those governed to CHOOSE THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT.

What blatant Russian propaganda. While there was US support, the uprising in 2014 was a popular movement against a corrupt Yanukovych who bowed to Russian pressure and reneged on a EU-Ukrainian deal and sought to link Ukraine with Russia. The Russians, and their sycophants, are exaggerating the US influence. Additionally, Yanukovych was removed by the democratically elected parliament. At worst, this was a internal constitutional problem among the Ukrainians, and was not threat to the Russians. Finally, Poroshenko and Zelensky were installed by popular elections, not by a coup. Russia does not get to dictate internal Ukrainian politics. The war started when Russia invaded to grab land that they had always coveted. The excuses that they offer are just that, excuses.

Just repeating this Russian propaganda does not make it true. There was no eight years of shelling of the civilian population. Even the statistics that the so-called Donbas republics do not support this claim. This has been shown to be lie many times. Why are you repeating it?

Russia has been using s-300s for ground attack at least nine months now. They were using them heavily for ground targets months ago, less so now. They had a huge amount of s-300s in storage - less so cruise missiles - so it made sense.

S-300 has a very large warhead for a SAM and a guidance system that can be adapted for ground targets, which is why they decided to use it for ground attacks. Original variant was 220 lbs, modern ones are 315 lbs.

“I am so sick of Russia and Zelensky”

Absent Russia starting a war in 2014 Zelensky would still be a relatively obscure C-level celeb from Ukraine.
