BUCKINGHAM, Virginia — Lindsey Taylor loved running elections here.
The previous registrar had spent nearly three decades in the job, and Taylor, 37, hoped to do the same when she was first hired in 2019. She loved her staff and the volunteer poll workers, and she took pride in the detail-oriented work. She implemented dozens of new laws in 2020, ran elections through the pandemic and impressed many in the rural, conservative, tight-knit community of Buckingham County.
But then the voter fraud claims started.
In January, the GOP assumed control of the Buckingham County Electoral Board that oversees her office, and local Republicans began advancing baseless voter fraud claims that baffled her. The electoral board made it clear it wanted her out of the job.
“There were people saying that they had heard all these rumors — that the attorney general was going to indict me,” Taylor said, days after leaving the office for the last time. “Mentally, I just — I couldn’t take it anymore.”
Three weeks ago, frustrated and heartbroken, Taylor, along with two part-time staffers, quit. Their resignations followed a deputy registrar who left in February, citing the same conflict.
Years after former President Donald Trump began pushing his lies about stolen elections, communities like Buckingham County are grappling with the aftershocks: What happens when election denialism drives out the people needed to keep local democracy running?

The writer included adjectives. Adjectives signal propaganda.
“Years after former President Donald Trump began pushing his lies about stolen elections,”
Fair. They’re a dominant bad actor in my opinion, and in use throughout my state. So they’re top of mind for me.
Fundamentally I trust none of the computer/electronic systems. I know too much about software and hardware. There are good reasons the Euros are almost universally on hand counted paper ballots mostly cast on election day.
But the incidents Christian had reported were not crimes, let alone treasonous offenses; some appeared to be procedural snafus, while others were misunderstandings.....
So, it did happen. But because they were not crimes, it’s ok.
Got it.
Indeed how strange how it can make the entire county’s election staff quit.
Kinds a like a crook tossing the gun in the river no traces.
Ha! Good summary.
Baseless .............because they say so
I like haw the media is so knowledgeable that they know election fraud charges are ‘baseless’ without ever looking at any of the evidence
WATCH 2000 MULES - I believe it contains evidence admissible in court.
That makes sense - it's easier for Biden's goons to threaten people who want to know the truth. Or even people who want to when look at what happened.
it was the republican county chairwomen that stated this crap, and maybe there were new voting laws that needed to be followed.
That a candidate who could not pay people to attend his meetings could get more votes legally than a candidate who had to turn people away at his meetings defies logic.

Yes. And getting away with it. In spades.
Ostensibly, we live in a Republic, ruled by laws This is what happens when there are laws, broken with impunity, and nothing is done.
This is what happens.
Joseph McCarthy is one of the most egregiously maligned people in the history of this country. He was nothing like what he was made out to be.
But one of the things he understood well was Communist Fronts. I think he knew hundreds of them. The foremost expert in Communist Fronts in America worked for him at that time, so he knew of what he spoke. This guy J.B. Matthews was a former communist who turned on them. I can’t remember, but he fingered something like 800 Communist Front groups in America.
They all had names like “Democratic Society for a Free America” or “The American Rights Foundation”, but in reality, what they stood for was generally at polar odds with the impression one would get from a reading of the name.
I have read a bunch of books on this time, and the names get an almost monotonous sound to them, as if it is a joke, and everyone is in on it, but nobody can say it aloud.
Except for Joseph McCarthy. And look what they did to him.
In my historical impression of that time, from reading books like “Witness” (Whitaker Chambers) and “Blacklisted by History” by M. Stanton Evans and investigating on my own, I concluded that the Left of today has a direct lineage to the people and party who destroyed Joseph McCarthy and Richard Nixon for opposing them.
Times have changed.
But the Leftist methods and tactics of character assassination, deceit, and arrogance have not. It is like reading the Bible, to me (which I am doing for the first time): The thing that stands out to me about the Bible is the immutability of certain aspects of human behavior between the beginning of the Bible through today. The greed, lust, violence, malignant deceit way back then is here today.
And so are the tactics of the Left.
Sadly, much the same as what we have done with Education. But that may be turning around there. But the Left has had hacks running election business for governments at all levels for decades now. (I believe Conservatives have generally avoided government isn't because we hate it, but ideologically, we are less inclined to poke our noses into other people's business. We as Conservatives can and do poke our noses where it might be unwelcome, but it is in a general framework of morality, law, and rights.
Or at least used to be.
The Left, on the other hand seems to be inclined to tell people what they have to do, simply to establish that they can force people to do whatever they order them to do.
I would not surprised if they passed some kind of regulation to force people at regular intervals during the day to stand up, bounce around in circle while hopping on one leg, rubbing their stomach and patting the top of their heads while chanting "Wooo haaaa" repeatedly for one minute.
For your health, of course.
But I harbor this vision of the Leftists who have their hands on the levers of power:
LEFTIST FLUNKY AIDE: Uh, sir...we have the polls back on the legislation passed last week...
LEFTIST POLITICIAN: Oh. Okay. Ah, which legislation was that?
LEFTIST FLUNKY AIDE: The, uh, part of the effort to improve the fitness and mental health of people by getting them out of their chairs and moving around.
LEFTIST POLITICIAN: Really? Did it actually pass?
LEFTIST FLUNKY AIDE: Of course, sir. You were a cosponsor of the bill.
LEFTIST POLITICIAN: Oh, right. Ah, what did we order them to do?
LEFTIST FLUNKY AIDE: Here, sir, is the verbatim text of the bill: "Each day, between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM local time, people will be required to stand up on the hour, bounce around in circle while hopping on one leg, rubbing their stomach and patting the top of their heads while chanting "Wooo haaaa" repeatedly for one minute. Failure to comply will result in resolutely pursued financial penalties."
LEFTIST POLITICIAN: Oh. Ah, what does the poll say?
LEFTIST FLUNKY AIDE: The, uh, response from the public has been uh, uniformly negative, and there are mentions of "civil disobedience". The...
LEFTIST POLITICIAN: Hm. Can't have that. Let's back off. I'll sponsor a bill on the floor requiring the roll back of these onerous government overreaches. Let's propose that they will only have to leap up an jump around at 12:00 Noon, and not on one foot, but two feet.
LEFTIST FLUNKY AIDE: Aaah. I see. Okay, I will start the process...
LEFTIST POLITICIAN: After you're done with writing a draft of that bill to roll it back, we'll write another one that will put the hopping on one leg back in. I really liked that, they looked absolutely hilarious doing it. But their faces!
