Tesla will open a new Megafactory in Shanghai, China, that is capable of producing 10,000 Megapacks a year, the company announced in a tweet Sunday.
A Megapack is a very large battery that stores energy, helps stabilize the power grid and prevents outages. These batteries enable grid operators to move extra capacity between counties or states and ensure that power from intermittent sources can be stored and used when demand is higher, or when there are unplanned outages in a transmission network.
Tesla currently has a Megafactory in Lathrop, California, that is capable of producing 10,000 Megapacks units each year, according to the company’s website. In a tweet Sunday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the factory in China will supplement output from the factory in California.

How do the batteries receive a charge in the first place? If the current grid is unstable, how does the grid charge the batteries?
In Kalifornia they shut down a natural gas power plant and placed Tesla batteries in the same buildings used for electric power generation (via natural gas). In the articles about this power plant there is no mention of just how the batteries were charged. In the 2 years since they built this, the ‘power plant’ has shut down twice due to.....yes.....battery fires. Shutdowns can last months. No mention of what the homes and businesses, hospitals etc do for electricity when the battery ‘power plant’ shuts down for months.
I put ‘power plant’ in quotes since there is no power generation at the plant; just rows and rows of batteries. It is so insane, the image of batteries inside of a place that used to actually generate electricity.
In the last several electricity crisis in Kalifornia, they had to purchase electricity from neighboring States. No word on the nature of the purchased power (coal, natural gas, etc). Kalifornia refuses to build more electric power generation. They are tearing down dams that provide very inexpensive hydroelectric power. They were going to shut down the nuclear power plant, but they decided to postpone the shutdown for a few years. I am sure they will get around to killing nuclear also, probably around the time that all those mandated EVs are all dead due to blackouts and brownouts

Who knows? Maybe China has reliable and affordable electricity ( unlike corrupted states like New York , Illinois, and Californication) ?
Now they could store some by using excess power to pump water into reservoir to later turned back into power.
They have one HUGE reservoir that is capable of huge electrical generation. IF they can keep the damn from washing away in flood.

There is a large and growing middle class in China.
And as horrible as it is to say, the PRC does a better job with domestic policy in a lot of ways than the US. The areas it is not as good are areas the US is getting worse.
