Gov. Ron DeSantis this week signed legislation into law that makes Florida the 26th state to allow Americans to carry firearms on their person for self-defense without a permit as one of the fastest moving affirmations of the Second Amendment continues to sweep the country.
All eyes are now turning to Nebraska and South Carolina, two states expected to take up such legislation in coming months. Gun rights activists say the summer 2020 riots and the subsequent rise in violent crime in many blue cities gave a jolt to a constitutional carry movement they long wanted to see gain steam.
"The bottom line is Americans watched years, certainly a year of riots and arson and looting. And they decided that they needed to be able to exercise their Second Amendment rights. Not everybody wants to do that. But they recognize the right to do so," retired Army Lt. Col. Willes Lee, a top official in the National Rifle Association, told the John Solomon Reports podcast on Thursday.
The rapid succession of states to adopt permitless or constitutional carry laws -- as well as major lawsuits seeking to protect gun rights from blue state and Biden administration regulations and bans -- are expected to be major points of conversation at next week's NRA spring meeting in Indianapolis.
Florida's law, generally regarded as "permitless carry," allows for individuals to carry a concealed firearm that is not visible to others. It does not permit the open carry of weapons.
Permitless carry and "constitutional carry" are not strictly the same, but the terms are often used interchangeably.
Generally, "permitless" states may require that individuals meet additional requirements apart from a permit to carry. Constitutional carry states, meanwhile, impose no restrictions on an individual's right to carry beyond their legal eligibility to purchase a firearm,

One thing I can say for Americans. The understand fully what the Second Amendment means and are not going to allow a couple little black boys in Tennessee with big mouths take our rights away.
Meanwhile, the left half doubles down on unconstitutional tyranny labeled as common sense gun control.

And yet in my state several dozen gun laws were passed within a few days after the Bruen decision was announced. There are many, many parts of the US Constitution for which our politicians (and judges) have complete, and open, contempt.
You are not shackled to you state, move west or east young man, put your wallet as a tax payer and family first, move out of the restrictive state.
I haven’t kept up with the latest movement and counter movements but I feel reasonably assured that if I want to go out and pick up a 1911 it’ll be months before I can bring it home IF I ever get to bring it home.
Here in NY State
I would SO love to see the Republican supermajority in the state legislature stuff constitutional carry right down Roy Cooper’s throat like they did the repeal of the Jim Crow pistol purchase permits.
It has already passed in the SC House. Contact your State Senator to ensure that he/she supports it. And it wouldn't hurt to check and see if your House member supported the bill, and thank them, or chastise them for not supporting it.
The Constitutional Carry bill is 3594. Type in 3594 in the "Bills Number" field on this South Carolina Legislature page for info on the Bill, sponsors, status, etc.
I don’t mean to be a downer on all this. I fully support both open and concealed carry. But I don’t think permitless concealed carry is enough. There needs to be true constitutional carry, both open and concealed. Given the disingenuousness of so many prosecutors, I see a loophole they can exploit: once someone removes his pistol from its concealed location to defend himself, it is now being carried openly, and if the law doesn’t permit open carry, the prosecutor could charge him, whether or not he ever shoots it or points it at anyone.
