I married a Thai Lady and I speak almost no Thai, my dad asked me how we communicate. I truthfully replied that it was not really different from an American Woman, we don’t understand each other.
My girlfriend is Korean...having lived there until she was 40. Her English is fair...but slowly improving. It’s a problem at times, for her more than for me.
I am married to a woman who doesn’t speak or understand English — and I don’t speak or understand Hungarian. But she’s petite and sweet and has a heart of gold. We love each other and so manage to communicate the essentials. Ahh, bliss!
(Pssst: the inability to have long drawn out interpersonal conversations is actually a benefit to the marriage. Again, Ahhh, bliss!)
