In Denouncing Charges, Trump Repeats Familiar Grievances
The New York Times via Yahoo ^ | April 5, 2023 | By Linda Qiu

WASHINGTON — Hours after pleading not guilty to 34 counts of filing false business records in a courtroom in Lower Manhattan, former President Donald Trump maintained his innocence Tuesday before a crowd of supporters at Mar-a-Lago.

He repeated a host of familiar and inaccurate attacks on his opponents. Here’s a fact-check of his remarks.

What Was Said:

“From the beginning, the Democrats spied on my campaign, remember that? They attacked me with an onslaught of fraudulent investigations. Russia, Russia, Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine impeachment hoax No. 1, impeachment hoax No. 2, the illegal and unconstitutional raid on Mar-a-Lago right here.”

This is misleading. This list covers five years’ worth of grievances that Trump long harbored and largely misconstrues the various investigations into his campaign, administration and conduct.

What Was Said”

”And now this massive election interference at a scale never seen before in our country, beginning with the radical left George Soros-backed prosecutor Alvin Bragg of New York.”

This needs context. The links between Alvin L. Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney who has brought the case against Trump, and George Soros, the financier and Democratic megadonor, are real but overstated.

What Was Said:

“That has absolutely nothing to do with openly taking boxes of documents and mostly clothing and other things to my home, which President Obama has done.”

False. Trump has repeatedly and wrongly compared his handling of classified documents to that of his predecessor.

What Was Said”

“In fact, they seem to have forgotten about his documents entirely, so many, thousands and thousands. It’s OK with him. They like to say that I’m obstructing, which I’m not, because I was working with NARA very nicely until the raid on my home. Biden is obstructing by making it impossible to get the 1,850 boxes.”

False.

Trump has to repeat them, because no one in the media will bother to, because they’re collaborators in all of them..

I personally wish that you would not darken these pages again with the New York Times. They have not been able to practice journalism or writing true stories for a long, long time, so the intent is just to rile up those good folks on this forum.

NYT fact checkers…

I keep waiting for them to go to work on virtually every thing that FJB says.” I went to a black church everyday after Mass”, “I drove an 18-wheeler”, “I drove a school bus”, “I was nominated to the Naval Academy”, “I inherited inflation”, “The economy is doing great!”, “I bless myself this way because I practically grew up Greek”

I realize I’ve left out dozens if not hundreds of his outright lies.

Yep, and got a fraudulent FISA warrant do do so - not even investigating the original bases for several months.

They attacked me with an onslaught of fraudulent investigations. Russia, Russia, Russia,

Yep. By the time this investigation began, they already had known there was no basis for months. The gig was completely up by August 2017 when the documentation of the Clinton payments to Steele were made public, yet the investigation went on for almost two years more. They tried to claim denial of guilt was obstruction of justice. The media sourcing most of the reporting were well aware there was nothing to the case since at least February 2017.

Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine impeachment hoax No. 1,

Congressional Democrats denied even homage to basic due process, in impeaching Trump for Biden’s braggadocios misdeeds. We signed a formal agreement with The Ukraine to exchange such information.

impeachment hoax No. 2,

My wasn’t that a clown show.

the illegal and unconstitutional raid on Mar-a-Lago right here.”

General Warrants are *explicitly* barred by the Constitution. Not suggested, not a penumbra - explicitly. Then they took completely unrelated materials. Their behavior since then has raised further episodes of misbehavior on their part.

Next?

A typical fake news hit piece from Yahoo! and the New York Times - cherry picked statements, inadequate (or no) context, usage of code words, e.g. “insurrection”, and leaving out inconvenient statements that don’t fit the narrative.
