Republican 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy told Daily Caller editor Grayson Quay that he initially supported Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, but now believes that he is not the candidate to lead the Republican Party in the upcoming presidential election.
DeSantis is expected to be former President Donald Trump’s main rival in the primary election as repeated polling has shown the Florida governor and former president to be neck-and-neck in a potential race. Ramaswamy formally entered the race on Feb. 21, and exclusively told Quay that he no longer believes DeSantis is the new leader of the Republican Party.

Vivek: Actually it was before I hired this staffer. She was evaluating an opportunity with the DeSantis campaign, which is actually a non-campaign right now. You know, the shadow campaign; which reveals why I think Ron DeSantis is not going to be our guy.
I think he cannot be the person who sits across the table with Xi Jinping. I think we need somebody with real fortitude who comes from the outside.
I think Ron DeSantis is a fine governor of Florida. He has done a great job done there.
But I think when you're talking about filling this national identity crisis; you can't have somebody who says I won't talk to a particular news network if they're not nice to me.
Or won't tell you if I got the second Covid shot or not because I'm scared of what the reaction will be.
Or that flip flops 3 times in a week on where he is on an important topic like Ukraine based on the reactions he gets.
I think there is a, and it's not specific to him, it is a fact about professional politicians that they are beholden to the system that created them. In many ways they are beholden to a donor class that has to fund them.
I am not beholden to that. Trump for his part is not beholden to that either.
I'm not beholden to that either. I've put an 8 figure sum of my money earned through my own hard work and dedication to this country. I've already put that into my campaign.
There is no limit we'll go to make sure that I'm independent of not being anybody else's puppet. I don't bow to any master from the CCP to the party of power in the United States but to the donor class in the Republican party either.
And I think when you have a professional politician, a career politician, like DeSantis, they are going to be good foot soldiers in the fight. But the person in the White House can't just be a follower; we actually need somebody who is a courageous leader.
Not just appearing to be courageous to a bunch of people who agree with you, but exhibit courage when it is most difficult to do it. And he's not going to be that guy.
If he were I wouldn't be in this race. I was actually rooting for him as a citizen for awhile but I think what we need is somebody who is a true outsider.
The Republican party needs to make it our tradition to nominate the outsider for the White House. The Democrat party - let them be the party for professional career politicians.
The Republican party is the party of the outsider and I think that's what it is going to take to see this agenda through.
Since when does Trump with a 25-30 point lead over DeBushie count as “neck-and-neck?”
Good Catch c98!
Man that is brutal.
He’s pointing out the truth about DeSantis without any emotional language.
Ouch!
Duhhhh…!
Obviously…he has stake in the game. He wants the nomination so if DeSantis is eliminated he will get a big step towards his goal. Take his comments with a grain of salt…no a shovelful of salt.

“I am not beholden to that. Trump for his part is not beholden to that either.”
Well, would you look at that? A Republican candidate actually saying a kind word about another Republican candidate?
Take a screenshot quick.
Until what?
In comparing and contrasting Trump/ DeSantis, this is the money quote:
“ Not just appearing to be courageous to a bunch of people who agree with you, but exhibit courage when it is most difficult to do it. And he’s not going to be that guy.”
I’m clearly a Trump supporter but never was a DeSantis detractor, either. Anyway, this quote rang true for me.
Holy cow, Swami has spent 8 figure money of his own on this campaign. So he is at least putting money where his mouth is. For those in Rio Linda, 8 figures means more than $10,000,000.
My litmus test for a vp candidate from now on is ….if that candidate had been the vp instead of Mike Pence , would he/she have done any differently ? There is ZERO chance DeSantis would have. In fact DeSantis said a few weeks ago that Trump should have moved on after his “defeat” and even blamed him for Jan 6th.
Vivek has generally been supportive of Trump even though he’s running against him.
He was one of the first candidates to come out strongly against the indictment of Trump.
Really it would be great if Trump made him Secretary of the Treasury so he can see first hand how the money is (mis)used.
Then he can run for president again in 2028.
For me, though I like and admire DeSantis, its Trump all the way. Especially in the present situation, it has to be Trump all the way.
For all the crap I see lately about Trump from DeSantis supporters and vice versa, I still think the best bet for winning in 2024 is Trump for Pres and DeSantis for VP.
Trump/DeSantis 2024
Call me naive but it would be best for BOTH of them. Trump can only serve another term. Ron can serve 2 post Trump president terms. That’s 12 years to get things back to “Made America Great Again”.
“Or that flip flops 3 times in a week on where he is on an important topic like Ukraine based on the reactions he gets.”
I missed the third flip. What was that one?

+1

Once it came out that desantis is favored by rove, Ryan, Jeb!, etc…
I will steer clear of Ron
