It seems like a waist of munitions, using one shell for just a few enemy combatants. They might have known they were going to be disintegrated. Why didn’t they at least run?

But I don’t know anything about these things..

They used many shells, but it takes only a short time to get more shells. It takes much longer to get more soldiers.

My thoughts too.

A tank is gunning for you, your out of ammo to fight it...seems best to bug out.

Why didn’t they at least run?

Because once you are out in the open you are likely to die quickly in that part of the front. In the earlier attack by the Russians on the same area most of the attackers were killed by mortar and artillery fire.

There are may videos of soldiers running across open ground with a drone following them and dropping grenades. The results are not good for the soldiers on the ground.
