The average brand-new car prices in the US are expected to rise above $50,000 this year, and executives at Toyota's North American operations anticipate that this trend will continue, Automotive News reports.
This increase in prices is likely to occur despite the recovery of the supply chain, and it is expected that demand will outstrip supply again this year. Furthermore, the report suggests that there are 6 million potential new-vehicle buyers sidelined by inventory and pricing.
Jack Hollis, head of sales for Toyota Motor North America, has given an update on the automaker's business, indicating that 2023 is expected to see Toyota and Lexus pick up another 100,000 sales above the 2.1 million they sold in the US last year.

Seems like a Good Thing that my 2018 & 2020 purchases of perhaps my last [driving life] cars [same brand, engine, xmission, drive-line, body style] to be added to the fleet summed to under $50k.
Sayonara, baby.
Our kid purchased a new vehicle in late 2020 for about $28K plus taxes and fees. That same vehicle model, with a smaller & less powerful engine for the 2023 model year, now sells for about $42K MSRP. Good timing. The vehicle was paid off late last year (two years of payments - early payoff).
My wife bought a new Camry in 2019, $23,000.
In 1978 I bought a brand new Oldsmobile Delta 88 fully loaded for $6200.00
The basic function, design and use of an automobile hasn’t changed since the first Model A rolled off the line.
A start-up could make a fortune making a basic car like that.
A necessary step would be to squelch the Fed Interstate Highway Extortion Racket. States could make their own necessary compacts. Who want to drive to California or New York anyway?
Yep- and a lot of the ‘cool cars’ that all the kids in highschool wanted, me included, were around $5000 range too-
In 1967 I bought my first ever new car, a Ford Fairlane, $2,700.
In 2016 I bought my last ever new car, a 2016 Toyota Highlander with life time bumper to bumper warranty for $42,000. It now has just 30,000 miles on it.
I will say the California coastal hwy is a very beautiful drive.
So are others but I will not discriminate because of politics.
I crawled out on the edge at Devil’s Slide beyond the barriers and captured one hell of a picture.
Guessing that many young people with 800-1000 car payments will default and many cars will flood the market used and at better prices...
$20K in today’s dollars. Mustangs are over $32K today (basic model).
Last vehicle I purchased was a 2016 Nissan Acura, gently used, for my son. Total $8K cash. Been running beautifully for 2 years.
I never buy new. I do not finance; cash only. I let someone else pay for the depreciation and my mechanic husband gives it a thorough evaluation before purchasing.
Cars are for conveyance. Everything else is ego.
we will never have a new vehicle again in our lives...we aren’t on rich govt pensions and we need to watch what we do...
sadly whatever they "give" us will never replace what we lost.....
we've had a new Jeep and a new Plymouth voyager...the year of course where the transmissions were bad and before we sold the dang thing we put 3 new transmission in plus an engine and within two weeks of us selling it the transmission failed again....
They want you to believe it ends there.
Insurance or not, you have the right to sue the other party in civil court to make you whole, and that includes the difference between what they 'offer', your expenses and additional costs to get you back in a similar vehicle.
The system is designed for speedy settlement and minimal expense to the insurance company (for obvious reasons), further victimizing you due to the actions of the responsible party.
My sentiments exactly....
I was looking at newer trucks recently. I ended up buying a junker for parts and am learning how to rebuild the blown tranny in the junker. I was looking forward to a new Tacoma, but not gonna spend $50,000 for pickup.
Purpose of an automobile is not to take pictures; or anybody’s ‘experience’.
