In mid-March, a far-right Dutch member of parliament named Thierry Baudet tweeted "WE WILL NOT EAT THE BUGS" accompanied by a photo of himself holding a microphone in one hand and pouring golden mealworms out of a bag in the other.
Earlier in the month, Poland's ruling nationalist party Law and Justice falsely alleged that the opposition Civic Platform was trying to push citizens into eating worms, prompting the opposition to hit back with a similar accusation.
Those are just some of several instances of European right-wing politicians lobbing a conspiracy theory that elites want people to eat bugs. The accusations arrived shortly after the European Union approved mealworms and crickets as food ingredients.
Across the Atlantic, American right-wing pundits and influencers decry a similar plot. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration permits small amounts of insect matter to be included in foods.

On the left, we appear to have the enlightened, educated, elite who tell us of a beautiful world where everyone enjoys the bugs. On the right, we appear to have the ignorant, reactionary working-class rubes who live in a world of darkness and distrust and don't understand the truth about the bugs.
According to this graphic it looks like the conspiracy isn't a conspiracy.
No one believes National Panhandling Radio any more. That is, no one possessing even a modicum of common sense.

Good News! Italy Bans Bug Flour from its Food
This comes shortly after the EU authorized food made from crickets, locusts and meal worm larvae among other bugs.
Or at least…you’ll know what you’re eating from clear package labeling
The new rules require that food containing insects be labeled with large letters and displayed on separate shelves from the rest of the food so that people don’t accidentally eat the bugs. The insect food will also be labeled with warnings about risks associated with eating it.
And traditional Italian food like pasta and pizza will be BANNED from containing flour made from insects.
Other products with insects will have to be labelled and stored on SEPERATE shelves away from regular food.
