Turkey’s parliament has voted to approve Finland’s NATO membership bid, paving the way for the Nordic country to join the security alliance.
The decision only applies to Finland, not Sweden, its neighbor and fellow NATO hopeful. Both countries applied on the same day last year, having made the decision to join the alliance after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Thursday’s vote was the last hurdle in Finland’s quest to join the military organization. Its eventual accession would remake European security, doubling NATO’s land border with Russia and bringing the full force of the alliance to Europe’s far north.

Congratulations Comrade Putin!
Silly thug just put NATO in position to cut off Murmansk from the rest of Russia. The Baltic is now the NATO Sea, and Russia isn’t welcome in any of it.
Sweden will soon enough join NATO with Austria and Switzerland to follow.
Not good.
Bttt
Perkele!
Russian Nukes to Cuba. Venezuela. Mexico. Africa. Etc.

we should let russia join nato, then everything will be ok.
Maybe they will recognize Turkey’s annexation of Northern Cyprus.
Excellent!
Turkish imports will be populating, staffing and controlling the Muslim No-Go-Zones in Finland!
They'll have so much fun!
Erdogan has an election coming up that he may not be able to “manage” given Turkey’s substantial economic difficulties and fallout from the lackluster earthquake response. The last thing he needs is financial pressure from the EU and US.
We’ve been there before, remember? Our agreement not to invade Cuba is contingent on Russia’s agreement not to station nukes there.
I don’t recall any such agreement with Castro.
“Putin Says He Discussed Russia’s Possible NATO Membership With Bill Clinton”
Radio Free Europe, Radio Liberty
June 03, 2017
“In a March 2000 interview with the British television journalist David Frost, Putin was asked whether “it is possible Russia could join NATO.”
Putin, who at the time was serving as acting president and weeks later was elected to his first term, responded, “I don’t see why not.”
Russia has repeatedly accused NATO of stoking tensions with its expansion toward its borders.
NATO says it poses no threat to Russia and that it is a defensive alliance. It has denounced Russia’s 2014 annexation of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula and backing of separatists in eastern Ukraine.
The Showtime series, titled The Putin Interviews, is set to begin airing on June 12. (2017)
In the interviews, Putin also says he does not agree with former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden’s decision to leak troves of classified documents on government surveillance.
But he says that Snowden, who was given refuge in Russia, is “not a traitor” and “did not give any information to another country that would have caused harm to his people.”
