Former President Donald Trump has been indicted on charges related to a payment made to a porn star
The indictment of former President Donald Trump reportedly handed down by a Manhattan grand jury is sealed, so we don’t know the precise legal charges against the former president. However, based on leaks to the media from sources within the district attorney’s office, we can draw some reasoned conclusions.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has cobbled together a novel, if not bizarre, legal theory of intertwining offenses. It is doubtful that his case can withstand judicial scrutiny, assuming the judge who presides over the matter is objective and neutral.
The defense will surely file a motion to dismiss by arguing that the case is not supported by the law and that the alleged facts do not amount to a crime. The district attorney accuses Trump of falsifying business records in the accounting of a payment made to porn actress, Stormy Daniels. By taking that dubious misdemeanor and coupling it with a purported campaign finance violation, Bragg seeks to elevate it into a felony. The law does not permit such arrant manipulations. It is doubtful that the prosecutor will argue a state campaign crime because the 2016 presidential election was for federal office. At the same time, Bragg cannot cite a federal campaign violation because a local prosecutor can only charge under state statutes.

On the basis of their presumptive charges, I trust that an indictment is being prepared for Bill Clinton. He paid off a whole lot more ladies, for a whole lot more money, and definitely to help his campaign.
Very true... whatever is ‘novel’ in Bragg’s legal reasoning will be interpreted as genius by the trained seals in the media. We do not live in a system ‘under law’ anymore...

They will almost certainly move to quash the indictment as Jarrett explains here. Too much depends on the politics of judges these days. Judges are NOT unbiased referees anymore (if they ever were).
This sentence jumped out at me. A huge and probably unrealistic assumption.
It is the premise for political theater to try and start a false flag "insurrection" and pre-empt any chance of Trump overturning the coup

I read that apparently the judge getting this case is the same NY judge who was assigned the Trump Org case and the Steve Bannon border wall case. What a coinky-dink!
Cohen’s conviction had nothing to do with these so-called “crimes.” It was a separate matter involving taxes owed by his taxi business...
Flaws or not, a hand-picked uber liberal jury will sit in the courtroom of a hand picked uber liberal judge and the kangaroo court will convict Trump in plenty of time to make him ineligible for the ballots as a convicted felon. The appeals will then be slow walked past election day. AZ, GA, PA, MI and WI pull the same stunts they pulled in 2020 and 2022 to hold their firewall and whomever the GOP puts up will NOT get 270 or more electoral votes.
Remember when Slow Joe campaigned from the basement and we thought he was going to get beaten (he did in reality)? They knew the fix was in. They know it this time to. So “critical flaws” in the indictment matter none.
