Exactly. They know that Republicans and conservatives in general will rally around Trump even if they hate him, and the younger, stronger candidates won’t stand a chance. Thus Biden - or whatever they run in his stead, in case he becomes too gaga even to be allowed out of his locked ward - will be elected automatically.
On the other hand, part of me is wondering if this isn’t meant as a direct provocation (look at all the fear theater, calling out all the DC police, etc.) to make it look as if Republicans and conservatives are an actual threat to national stability and to give the left the chance to suspend constitutional guarantees (as they have done with the J6 people) and grant themselves emergency powers to repress and suppress all opposition. But maybe my tinfoil hat is on too tight.
