Melitopol is between the Kakhovka reservoir of the Dnipro river to the north, and the Molochnyi estuary to the south. Retaking Melitopol would split the Russian occupation in half.

That is not likely as it is so obvious. The catch is, Russia has not won and Ukraine has not lost, so anything could happen.

I would expect significant partisan activity behind the Russian front, as well as raiding parties etc. Not that that adds up to a “counteroffensive” however.
