Ron Johnson casts doubts on continued U.S. aid helping Ukraine in its fight against Russia, calls for negotiations to begin

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson this week expressed doubts over the impact of continued U.S. assistance to Ukraine in its fight against Russia, calling the war unwinnable for either side and suggesting the warring nations need to negotiate an end to the conflict.

“At some point people are going to have to understand the reality of the situation,” the Wisconsin Republican told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Tuesday. “I don’t see a scenario, and I’ve asked — I mean, where is there a path to victory from our standpoint? All I see is a grinding stalemate that day-by-day more people get killed and more of Ukraine gets destroyed.”

Johnson said the war is a “lose-lose-lose for everybody” and added: “Nobody can win at this point. They should start negotiating.”

The comments come as Republicans have become increasingly divided on whether to continue providing financial aid and military equipment to help Ukraine defend itself against the Russian invasion. Much of the dissent has spawned from a far-right faction of House Republicans who have derided Washington’s spending on the war and called for a “peace agreement.”

‘Oh, well then I guess Johnson IS a Russian agent!
Where is the fainting couch?”

Yep, I was always suspicious about him, ever since learning that he’s the ONLY member of the Senate without a bunker in New Zealand.

I keep seeing these “Biden and nasty neocons canceled negotiations” claims... yet it seems more propaganda than fact - as it’s been regurgitated with other international figures’ names in place of ‘Biden”.

And all the so-called ‘documentation” is far more nefarious as Putin’s claims to Ukrainian territory.

DeSantis really blew it when he waffled on Ukraine. He listened to the GOPe and backed away from his initial and correct position and it has cost him big. The party has no idea how fed up we are with the massive rat money laundering op that is the Ukraine war. When Trump said he could end it in weeks I believe him.

That must be sarcasm for stupid people.

Not sarcasm. It's what a lot of Americans believe. Are you stupid?

Isolationism did the US so much good in the early part of the previous century.

Far too many Americans believe that we should mind our own business and the rest of the world will leave us alone. Those people haven't learned or refuse to learn the lessons of history.

It would be funny if Afghanistan had actually executed the first 9/11. Other than that your arguments are worth considering.

A logical extreme is a product of stupid people, for stupid people.

In all cases.

And yet here you are, an extremity, that defies logic.

You raise an interesting point. When one looks back at the WWII era and how Alan Dulles dealt with “some” Nazis, it’s not too far fetched to realize while we may have defeated Germany in WWII, we did not defeat the Nazis. The Ukraine crisis brought this all to light.

gotta be something worth reading in the first place. Have yet to see any evidence of US Senators all having bunkers in NZ. And searching via multiple search engines reveals no support for it either. That is why I asked -

The reality is - the war could be ended relatively quickly - but none have the backbone to do it.

We need tough guys like you to show US how its done.

Robert Gates(Def. Sec.) wrote a 42 page chapter on Russia in his 2020 book. Did we blow it starting in the early 90’s? He really doesn’t answer but he was skeptical. Too much going on in Russia to trust them with a whole lot of money. He even brought up the idea of a Marshall Plan for them. That would’ve been too much.

I won’t read the entire 500+ pages but I’ll go looking for his quotes on Biden always being wrong.

Pat Buchanan blames us but he’s not in government so you must always consider the source.

It’s a stupid war with stupid prizes. I have said that for a year. I suspect that Ukrainian dead are around 150-200k civilian and military. I suspect that Russian dead are 400-600K (maybe more). It’s a useless blood bath. Nobody is going to win at this point, IMHO, in the sense of ‘Victory’. Russia will continue to exist, and Ukraine will continue to exist. The both will be at each others throats for decades, it will hurt trade and families.

Russians should take themselves back to their own territory. Ukraine should be able to have free and fair elections without US interference. Both nations should work towards peace and trade.

My message to the pro-Russian posters is simple. Do you want a heavily armed and angry Ukraine on your border or even worse, Ukraine with Air Superiority over the battlefield and modern working tanks rolling to your border? My message to the pro-Ukrainian forces is just a simple. Do you want to risk a war that people loose interest and quit supporting you as Russia takes ground and treats citizens like they did in Germany in WWII?

To hell with the war mongers, CIA, Putin, and Biden. Find a way to make it work.
