London (AFP) – The jury is out on whether Humza Yousaf can deliver independence for Scotland.
But history's verdict will be clear on the 37-year-old's breakthrough as the first Muslim leader of a western European democracy.
The newly-elected head of the Scottish National Party (SNP) joins the growing ranks of leaders from Britain's old imperial possessions who are remaking the face of UK politics.
Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is the Hindu son of parents whose familial roots lie in India.
One of the new SNP leader's chief adversaries in the Edinburgh parliament will be Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, who is also of Pakistani heritage.
The evolution confirms "how far ethnic and faith diversity at the top has become a new norm across British politics," said Sunder Katwala, director of the demographics think tank British Future.
King Charles III will now be inviting a Hindu prime minister of Britain and a Muslim first minister of Scotland to his coronation in May, he noted in the Eastern Eye newspaper.

I remember the United Kingdom.
PM of Ireland and Mayor of London are also South Asian.
A hundred years ago South Asia was ruled by the Brits. Now all of the British Isles are run by a bunch of South Asians.
In large part this is because South Asian kids are the only ones in today’s Britain brought up to value education and hard work, and they have become a ruling class over the bulk of Britains who only work hard enough to pay that week’s pub tab.
Between 1914-1945 Britain lost forever the genetic core of its culture. It has been fundamentally transformed.
First went to Europe in 1993. Well, it was what you would expect, Europe.
Then went back in 2004 to Paris. It was as if the pilot made a mistake and landed in Tunisia. So I took what I thought was the train to London but ended up in Lahore.
That is so true.

Yeah...it’s astonishing. I’m originally from the UK, Leicester area. It’s now getting the nickname “Little Kashmir” due to the conflicts between Pakistani Muslims and Indian Hindus. It’s not slowing either. They’re so full of “British empire guilt” that nobody says anything for fear of being called ‘racist’. It’s unreal and there’s only one outcome.
That will be your Civil War in Britain, Hindus vs Muslims. Gee, who thought allowing in millions from both India and Pakistan was a good idea?
If there was an Arthur, one of the better theories posits that he was a Roman. Then you have Cnut from Denmark, William from Normandy, Henry II who was Froggish, George the Kraut...
I’m sure he has the best interest of the Scottish people at heart
Now that you mention Indians there’s one thing nobody ever says about the bombing at King’s Cross. Every restaurant and store around there was Indian. You could even buy small statues of Hindu gods.
When the bombing happened I wondered if the terrorists were getting a two for the price of one—bombing Hindus and British.

Two tours in the UK (1986 and 1993). My wife is from Northern Ireland, and when we go visit family, we stay far away from any city. Nothing but a bunch of animals. London lost its charm a long time ago. I’ll never go back there.
“Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak“
About as Conservative as Biden.
Good luck Western civilization. Abandon your Judeo-Christian roots and dissolve into the sea along with the Canaanites.
No, but not because he’s Muslim. It’s because he is incompetent and the hand picked successor to Nicola Sturgeon.
Even so he only narrowly won the SNP Leadership vote over Kate Forbes.
1st Round:
Humza Yousaf: 24,336
Kate Forbes: 20,559
Ash Reagan: 5,599
2nd Round, with Ash Regan’s second preferences redistributed:
Humza Yousaf: 26,032
Kate Forbes: 23,890
It’s also because the British have done a very good job at integrating ethnic minorities, particularly Indians, into mainstream British society.
Rishi Sunak pretty much followed the same path that most other recent Tory leaders have followed to get into Parliament and the Conservative Party leadership.
