Which is amazing, because cows are physically incapable of farting. Horses, maybe. But the four-stomach set-up of a cow’s stomach is incompatible with the accumulation of gas. They get displaced, so that the poor cow can’t even defecate, and if they are not operated on to relieve the condition, they die. And when you feed them a high-carb diet to make them produce more milk, as is done with Holsteins, it becomes a big problem. Learned this while working with cows on dairy farms in the Florida panhandle.

If all the polar ice caps were to melt, sea level would rise about 225’. So, it is conceivable. The rise and fall of sea level is what drives the rhythmic bedded nature of the sedimentary rocks you observe in road cuts and such.

“The rise and fall of sea level is what drives the rhythmic bedded nature of the sedimentary rocks you observe in road cuts and such.”

What causes the rise and fall (more specifically than the umbrella term ‘climate change’)?

One way is the amount of new oceanic crust being created at the mid-oceanic ridges. If you look at a map of the oceans, you will see what appear to be sutures. That is where new oceanic crust is being created and it is moving like a conveyor belt away from the centers. If more crust than average is being created, it displaces the the water and sea level will rise. This would be a global event.

One way to get a more regional rise in sea level is by subsidence. For instance, at the mouth of the Mississippi, sediment is being transported from the continent to the ocean and enters through a delta. Under extreme floods, (if man is not involved), the river will abruptly change course and flow to the Gulf to form a new delta. Since the old delta is no longer receiving new sediment, it will continue to sink and it would appear that sea level is rising.

As far as the cause of “climate change,” I would take a deep dive into what are called Milankovitch cycles.

Wouldn’t at least a majority of that water fill in where the ICED USED TO BE???

Ice that is floating in the ocean is just like cubes in your drink. The fluid level doesn’t rise when they melt. Ice in the form of glaciers on the land melt and gravity returns them to the sea. That causes sea level to rise.

This is Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas. It is basically a reef that formed in the Permian about 270 million years ago. It is 8,751’ above sea level. If you were to climb up there and examine it, you would see fossils of the former reef. Corals, bryozoans, brachiopods, sponges, echinoderms, bivalves, and the like. It would look somewhat similar to the Florida Keys of today.

FL is tectonically dormant. The land ‘rose’ due to the accumulation of shells in the shallow sea millions of years ago. The shells are above sea level in FL because the present land was under water millions of years ago. The accumulation of ice lowered the sea level below the shells exposing them as the present day land of the Florida peninsula.

“The accumulation of ice ...

What made the ice form, which is asking what made the earth cool?

It’s fun bringing that information up in a conversation with people who believe the beef industry needs to be shut down because of climate change.
