Just a reminder I get to go to work in the morning as I have every year for the past 30 years, faithfully paying into the scheme so that others would get theirs that the feds spent years ago. I remember very clearly and very fondly my grandfather telling me he was glad I worked every day so his checks would keep coming and to keep it up. Now, the only proposals out there include an increase in retirement age, which means that instead of 20 more years in the game, I have 25 more, and a proposal to entirely screw Gen X, my generation, out of the money we’ve paid in for the last 30 years. What a scam!

Yes, but the real scam and scandal is they automatically take your money from you for this “retirement”. The gov figures you can’t take care of yourself properly and won’t be responsible, so they will withhold that income for you.

Then, you still get taxed on it when you “retire” as income, even though they took that money from you 30-odd years ago when value was different! And you don’t get back the value, only the absolute amount!

And, you can’t take it with you….gov wins if you die before retirement, or you die too soon….no inheritance except to the gov!

I was born in 62, and consider myself a cusp- Gen-Xer.

We have all known this crisis was coming for 40 years, since the last big reform took place. At any point a very mild shift in the growth rate of benefits could have eliminated the risk of the impending train-wreck and at every point a coalition of Democrats and old people who WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED by such reforms have prevented it from occurring.

So now we are less than 10 years from an overnight 25% reduction in benefits for ALL recipients, and even now the Democrats won’t discuss doing anything, other than raising taxes. It is sickening, truly.

QUITCHERBITCHIN”

I paid in for over 50 years-—

AND-—FROM 1980 to 2004, I was self-employed-—so I paid BOTH parts since I was both employee & employer.

I paid out 15.3% of my income-—and I never made more than $20 an hour-—BUT I DID WORK ALOT OF HOURS.

For every $20 of income-—I got to keep $16.94....

NO OVERTIME PAY

NO PAID VACATIONS

NO PAID HOLIDAYS

NO PAID SICK DAYS

NO RETIREMENT BENEFITS

NO HEALTH CARE BENEFITS——I paid those premiums
