There are millions of people who paid into the system, and who will NEVER get a single SS check.

Millions of those who paid, will have died before they even get a single check. Perhaps a love one (wife, kids) may get the benefit that one paid for, but, many other millions will have paid with not a single check coming to them or any family member.The government depends on people dying early so that the money will be there for all others, even to those who never contributed a single penny into the system, like illegal aliens.

Some say to start collecting at 62 in case you don't live that long (how would you know?).

Others say to start collecting at 70 so you have your largest possible check (how would you know if you live that long?).

I think best best is to retire at FRA (now 67 for most).
