Social Security update: Direct payment worth up to $4,555 goes out to millions in 17 days
Washington Examiner ^ | March 26, 2023 | Asher Notheis

Posted on 03/26/2023 6:55:59 AM PDT by george76

In 17 days, millions of retirees will receive the first round of April's Social Security Administration retirement payments, worth up to $4,555.

The first round, for those born between the 1st and 11th of a month, will be released on Wednesday, April 12. Three disbursements are released to retirees each month, but each person only receives one payment that coincides with the 10-day block of the month in which they were born, according to the SSA's schedule.

...

The amount of money each recipient gets depends on the recipient's age at retirement. The highest payment is worth $4,555 per month, and it goes to people who retired at 70. Recipients who retired at 67 receive a maximum check of $3,627, and anyone who retired at 62 gets up to $2,572, according to the SSA.

The second round of payments will be released on April 19, and it will be for those born between the 11th and 20th of a month. The final payment for April will be disbursed on April 26 and will be for people born between the 21st and 31st of a month.

...

The current age of retirement is 67, but people can take early retirement at 62 or delay retirement until 70. People could see a decrease in their payments if Congress does not determine how the program will be funded by 2037. Discussions on the future of Social Security have been ongoing in Congress for years, and a pair of bipartisan senators recently proposed raising the retirement age to 70.

I was born in 62, and consider myself a cusp- Gen-Xer.

We have all known this crisis was coming for 40 years, since the last big reform took place. At any point a very mild shift in the growth rate of benefits could have eliminated the risk of the impending train-wreck and at every point a coalition of Democrats and old people who WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AFFECTED by such reforms have prevented it from occurring.

So now we are less than 10 years from an overnight 25% reduction in benefits for ALL recipients, and even now the Democrats won’t discuss doing anything, other than raising taxes. It is sickening, truly.

Age 70 retirement only changes the calculation of the amount of the pmt.

And the actuarials figure out, a much shorter payout period.

The way things in this nation are spiraling downward, it would not be surprising to someday see a racial component added to the SS payout computations.

The government taxes 85% of the social security payment which we already paid taxes on! Congress keeps eroding anything that is a deduction while they launder money through foreign aid back to themselves.

“Then, you still get taxed on it when you “retire”

Biden the despicable senator did this. We pay taxes on 85% of the social security money that the govt gives back to us after they took away from us with which we could have been privately investing.

Biden has 5 multi million dollar houses on a career politician salary

This is no longer easy to find. Google polishes these up to make these rip off artists look better.

“ In 1993, Biden joined a partisan effort to narrowly pass an “Omnibus Bill,” mostly focused on lowering the deficit. Included in this large package was a bill that changed the level of taxable Social Security benefits from 50% to 85%.”

Wow! To come up with Bob Kuben means you’re from the St. Louis area and had a cocktail or two on the Admiral river boat.

They may already have done that. Watch Judge Judy re-runs - count the demographics / number of litigants who are receiving Social Security Disability - it will support your prediction.

QUITCHERBITCHIN”

I paid in for over 50 years-—

AND-—FROM 1980 to 2004, I was self-employed-—so I paid BOTH parts since I was both employee & employer.

I paid out 15.3% of my income-—and I never made more than $20 an hour-—BUT I DID WORK ALOT OF HOURS.

For every $20 of income-—I got to keep $16.94....

NO OVERTIME PAY

NO PAID VACATIONS

NO PAID HOLIDAYS

NO PAID SICK DAYS

NO RETIREMENT BENEFITS

NO HEALTH CARE BENEFITS——I paid those premiums

ANOTHER TIDBIT:

THIS YEAR:

February had 4 Sundays-—4 Mondays—4 Tuesdays—4 Wednesdays—4 Thursdays-—4 Fridays—4 Saturdays

March had the same-—4 of each.

Report said the next time that will happen is 486 years from now.

I have NO IDEA how they calculated that 486 number.

You only get taxed on “that money” if you have income over a certain threshold. I make far less—so I do NOT know the threshold

ONLY ABOVE certain thresholds. LOW $$$$ recipients do now pay taxes. Most who do have other retirement pensions/IRA’s.

Yes, exactly. Nothing in this article describes anything other than SSA’s regularly scheduled disbursements, unless something was left out.

Clickbait, to put it politely.
