GRAND CANYON, Ariz. – You are only as old as you think you are.
Just ask the active 91-year-old Colorado man who now holds a world record as the oldest person to cross the Grand Canyon rim-to-rim on foot.
John Jepkema took off on the 5-day trek on Nov. 7, 2019, with his other senior friends and was recently acknowledged by Guinness World Records.

It got my ankles the hardest going down.
Make sure you have some carbs for the way out.
Good advice. I was 33 and in good shape from a summer of fieldwork when I hiked the Bright Angel trail down to the river and back. I took several quarts of water, but no food, and I hadn't eaten before starting. Ran out of gas about halfway back up, and had to stop to rest every few hundred yards for the last couple of miles. Good learning experience.
I used to hike a lot. But now I’m almost 71. Ain’t no way.

Emergency transportation, even an air ambulance from that location, should be covered by Medicare Part B. He’s been paying premiums into it for 25 years.
Why put such a grim spin on a happy story?
The same people that pay for the helicopter that flies a golfer struck by lightning off the golf course, or the same people that pay for a helicopter to fly a drowning victim from a lake to the hospital. The taxpayers.
