MALDEN - A patrol rifle was stolen from a marked State Police cruiser in Malden overnight, sources told WBZ-TV's I-Team.
It happened at an apartment complex. The cruiser was parked in a garage at the time. The I-Team sources said the thieves broke in and stole the rifle and ammunition from a locked compartment inside the vehicle. They said it "appears to be a professional job."
The cruiser belongs to a trooper assigned to Logan Airport, sources said.
‘They said it “appears to be a professional job.”’
I bet that “locked compartment” had one of those little circular locks that you can unlock with a Bic pen tube :)
What’s a “patrol rifle”? What’s a “cruiser”?
...it was a FREE rifle!
The thieves will be easy to identify; all the FBI will have to do is look at the ATF Form 4473 we all know the bad guys will submit, right? It is the law, after all... </s>
F Troop at Logan Airport.
Some police officer is in hot water for leaving his weapon in an unlocked vehicle. 9 times out of 10, nobody would dare to break in.
I’ll take an M4 to go...plain, with nothing on it. /s
The right to keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed. Is that going to be a valid defense if the new owner is apprehended?
Seems to me that the Federal government has lots of guns that are not being used and should be distributed to citizens.
Oh no!
EffBeeEye? Please don’t take away my rights for posting that. Please?
“That’s “F” Troop.”
Lol. F Troop Fs with anybody picking someone up from Logan Airport.
That M4 must come in handy in their war on private citizens just trying to pick up their loved ones.
If this particular rifle is used to shoot up a school, we will never be told.
An M4 that’s hotter than a 2 dollar pistol that’s putting it lightly
.
“Who, particularly a “professional”, would break into a police car to steal one?”
An Illegal?
For a legal one, with the requisite paperwork and $200 tax stamp, I'm guessing $25,000 and up, if your state allows.
(Who would WANT one with no paperwork, no tax stamp and no way to trace it back to anyone but the trooper, mere possession of which would qualify the possessor for a long stint in Federal prison? I'm guessing it's NOT a collector.)
If it's a real, select-fire M4, BATF would call it a "machine gun".
(If State Troopers are equipped with select-fire M4s and keeping them in their patrol cars, that would probably be the easiest way for a bad guy to acquire one.)
Was it an assault rifle or a defense rifle?
