That’s what I’ve always heard. The crater might end around Texas, that sort of thing.

Thanks for your very informative post. I’d often read there had been roughly 80 lesser eruptions Yellowstone since the last explosive one, but never had seen anyone explain just what they were. As they are obviously much more likely to occur than the rare catastrophic eruptions they are for what we should be preparing generally. Sounds like they’d disrupt tourism and wildlife in parts of the park, but wouldn’t have much effect beyond its boundaries. And depending on details they might actually be safe enough, at a viewable distance, to draw some tourists to witness interesting volcanism, as occurs in Hawaii. Certainly better than keeping the magma accumulating within until it really blows.

We love living in Chubbuck. 7 miles to the airport. Close drive to Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Craters of the Moon. My co-workers from the Eagle area dropped in to go skiing at Pebble Creek. It was steeper than they had expected. I haven't done any fishing or camping yet. We're so close to Yellowstone that it is easy to take one day trips. If we want to get in the park early, a hotel room in West Yellowstone affords access to a comfortable room and good restaurants. Entering in early morning improves the number of animals feeding.

I'd love to hear your take on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
"Is that a B-29?"
"Why, yes, it is."
