Irreconcilable differences but no divorce? Is there any hope to save this union?
American Thinker ^ | 03/23/2023 | Silvio Canto Jr.

As a colleague once told me about a friend's divorce, the marriage reached a point where it could not be saved and the couple could no longer live in peace together. They call it "irreconcilable differences" and it was obvious to anyone watching that the couple had reached such a point.

Are we there as a country? I wonder, reading what goes on every day.

Over in Los Angeles, a teen is arrested with two stolen guns after threatening the school but DA George Gascon declines to charge. In New York, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has a terrible case of Trump Derangement Syndrome but 'bodegas" are under siege from street criminals.  Who keeps these criminals terrorizing "bodegas"?  The name starts with B and ends G, i.e. Bragg. Disney, the same one that made classics like Old Yeller and Swiss Family Robinson now goes woke with Strange World.  In school after school, parents learn that their kids are being indoctrinated without their consent.

It's scary for anyone who remembers a different past when we argued with liberals about the minimum wage, not transgenderism. Or they said that abortion should be rare and legal, but not in the late terms of the pregnancy.

It sure looks like two nations with irreconcilable differences, or the early stages of a divorce. Is there any hope to save this union?  I found this post by Athena Thorne rather good:

By late last fall, my colleague Mark Tapscott reported that polls showed the relocations are expected to gain momentum: “the trend is going to be accelerating in coming years, and that means the alignments of national politics may well be about to shift big-time.”

You mean like liberals leaving the crap hole they created and move to Texas, Florida etc. and do the same there?

That ain’t going to work. As long as people are free to move across state lines nothing will change.

The state of this union is akin to a couple in a clearly broken marriage that decides to appear to stay together for financial reasons. There is no nationhood here anymore, considering if 9-11 happened today, the left half of the country would be cheering on Al-Qaeda. This Union is no more; it’s irretrievably broken.

If someone is cheated on there’s no hope to save a union unless on is a fool.

If they do it once they will do it again same if a woman is hit.

Forcible dissolution, like with the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires after the First World War?

The trick is to lose a world war without too much being nuked.

If diversity makes you stronger, Austria-Hungary would have won WWI.

The opposite is more likely the case. That is, for an independent Texas to start absorbing chunks of Mexico, eliminating the gangs from their annexations before pumping them full of prosperity the likes of which they have never seen.

All the while, the remaining Mexico would be in a situation of reform itself or die. This would mean finally discarding its “Old Europe Disease” of a hyper wealthy pseudo nobility families lording it over the peasantry.

And how would Mexico’s government allow that to happen?

Entire cities, and even states, in Mexico are under de facto control of drug gangs, and the national government has made little or no effort to assert control. Assuming Texas has left the US and formed their own nation, given certain guarantees, I would not be surprised for the Mexican government to cede some degree of control in exchange for Texas to clean up the mess.

It would not have to be violent, or promise violence to those other than criminals. Instead it could be like a limited term peace treaty, with a part of Mexico acting like Hong Kong and Macau for 50 or 100 years.

The problem with that is I see the Federal government using its budget to bail out those left leaning states from money from the successful states.

“I want a divorce. I no longer want democrats of any flavor to have any say over how I should be governed.”

I am with you. Our own Government is a far greater danger to our freedom than Russia and China combined.

Democrats feel the US has on stolen land with no right to exist.
What’s the compromise with that?
I think the solution is for Democrats to be repatriated with their former geographic areas.
