Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sought to clean up comments where he called Russia's brutal war on Ukraine a 'territorial dispute' after drawing rebukes against 'isolationism' but praise from Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
'Well, I think it's been mischaracterized. Obviously, Russia invaded — that was wrong. They invaded Crimea and took that in 2014 — That was wrong,' DeSantis told Piers Morgan in an interview more than a week after his initial comments.
He also rolled out tough talk against Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him a 'war criminal' and saying he should be 'held accountable,' while dissing Russia as 'basically a gas station with a bunch of nuclear weapons' during a week when Putin huddled with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow.

Anybody who is not a Zelensky fan, IMHO. This “war” is so phony but so dangerous.
“His initial statement was strong, a good first statement. Was the problem that he sounded too much like Trump?”
That’s the way it seems to me. Trump’s attacks on DeSantis forced DeSantis to start differentiating himself from Trump sooner than he wanted. He and his campaign likely would have preferred to not get into discussions on national policy this early. The longer DeSantis could have kept silent and relied on the DeSantis “mystic” he and his team have been trying to cultivate, the better it would have been for them. NOW do people understand why Trump has been hitting him so hard? Trump understands that you fight an opponent on your terms, not the opponents.
The U.S. can’t concede jurisdiction to the U.N.’s International Criminal Court.
The ICC is the body whose recent utterances are the basis upon which so many world governmental leaders are leaping to call the Russian leader a war criminal.
Yes, DeSanctus has said something dumb.
DeSantis poll numbers continue to slide ...
Meatball Ron is also Meathead Ron.
Combine this with DeSantis cozy relationship the Chamber of Commerce, he's the second coming of George W. Bush.
I’m beginning to think that too. Rand Paul is good on a lot of things. His father was a little over the top, but he’s not his father.
I live in FLorida and DeSantis has been great, especially at resisting the woke and LGBTQRSTUV agenda, protecting the rights of parents, and fighting back against the shutdown and vax mandates (heavily promoted and imposed by our many Dem and RINO mayors, who have a lot of power under FLorida law).
But I really don’t want us to go to a fake but destructive war over a miserable little Dem client state or continue with our wacko financial and fiscal policies, so Rand Paul seems to have a lot going for him.
Ron Paul is looking better every day. I know he’s old, but his mind is much sharper than Buydem’s and he gets it without all the other baggage. I’m half serious.
Noem was weak on Transgenderism. Bowed to big Busniess.
“Thinking that DeSantis is ready to be advanced to the White House is like hiring a high school football coach with a winning season as an NFL head coach.”
Very good analogy.
“Noem was weak on Transgenderism. Bowed to big Busniess.”
Very sad. Protecting kids from Groomers and Butchers should be about the EASIEST CALL for any Republican to make.
“I’m beginning to think that too. Rand Paul is good on a lot of things. His father was a little over the top, but he’s not his father.”
Agree, his father was off his rocker, but he produced a good kid. And I’ll never forget how the Left dealt with him, nearly killing him at his home in Kentucky.
Or was it Hillary's idea? She "helped" Libya too.
“I’m beginning to feel like DeSantis, who used to seem like a fairly authentic man, has started listening to “advisors” recommended by the ever-more-woke RNC.”
yep ... desantis is starting to do the politician’s flip-flop dance ...
“This is not a good path for him to take.”
indeed not ... shows that’s he just yet another standard politician that’ll do and say whatever he thinks it’ll take to get elected ... sans principles of course ... we do NOT need another one of those ... is Trump really the ONLY leader of ours who has invariant principles that guides his leadership? (principles besides “whatever it takes to get elected”) ...
McCain probably updated Scottish journalist Xan Smiley’s ‘60s era gibe that the USSR was “Upper Volta with rockets” .
It does, a bit, you’re right. But maybe Jeb! still outsmarms him ;)
Chrystia's pest pet got bit by the mamba!
The US has basically threatened the ICC in the past.
Can you now tell the truth about GW Bush on this site!?! Say it ain’t so
