Even prices at Wallyworld will be going up as handling the freight is going to get a lot more expensive. Deliver it to state like so another truck can haul it farther east to the stores.

The logistical issue is that the largest container ships can not fit through the Panama Canal. So, even if your container of “X” coming from China is going to Chicago or Buffalo, it might still be cheaper to ship it to LA and unload it there. Before shipping it across the country. Generally, container ships going to the east coast from Asia all can fit through the canal.

What will change eventually is the cost of trucking out of California. The people that will get screwed are the consumers in CA, AZ, NV and others close in proximity to those ports.

Is there a container ship port in Mexico that can take the largest ships? Somewhere on the north end of the Baha or Sea of Cortez? Maybe the Cartels and Chinese can build one there.

no kidding, Long Beach over the Grapevine to Bakersfield, good luck, even on diesel they only go 10 mph over that pass.

Good post.

Something to consider here is that the Panama Canal has actually become LESS important for containerized cargo over time. There are a couple of factors at work here:

1. In many industries, high-volume manufacturing in Asia has slowly migrated south and west from China, Japan, Taiwan and Korea to places like Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Singapore is the "centroid" of Asia for supply chains to North America. It's almost exactly equidistant in either direction to the East Coast of the U.S. from there ... so shipping to the U.S. from posts west of Singapore is more efficient via a westbound water route through the Suez Canal than eastbound through the Panama Canal.

2. California is a major consumer market itself, but most of the cargo coming through the LA/Long Beach port complex is destined for other parts of North America. In many respects, those ports may be more of a nuisance than they are worth -- especially when you consider the local impacts of traffic congestion, noise and diesel emissions.

Need to open a truck stop on the border of California and Nevada, Oregon or Arizona. Out of state diesel trucks will not be allowed into California. Will sell burgers to the drivers dropping off their out of state loads so California electric trucks can pick them up to haul into the state. This will go well.

FedEx just spent billions of dollars converting some of the trucks to the very abundant natural gas. It was not that long ago that the environazis were touting natural gas as the ‘clean fuel.’ Once President Trump let the drillers Drill Baby Drill, we became the Saudi Arabia of natural gas. One thing the democRATS cannot abide is inexpensive and abundant energy. Those deplorables take advantage of it. Obama just installed 3 natural gas tanks on one of his east coast properties. Those tanks can hold a total of 2,500 gallons of LNG. Some of us animals are more equal than others (Animal Farm)

They will no doubt spike the EV truck battery fires that are sure to come. Some European ferry services have banned EV autos from their ferries. Several New York buildings have banned e-bikes and e-scooters from their buildings due to fires.

In Kalifornia they shut down a natural gas electricity power plant. In the buildings of the power plant they placed massive banks of Tesla batteries. The image of batteries replacing evil natural gas is supposed to be an example of the great leap forward into the bright future. (there is no mention of just how the batteries are charged). Within the two years that the batteries have been online, the plant has shut down twice due to battery fires. Sometimes they are shutdown for months.

We recently drove from Sacramento to Denver, and back again. During the long, long stretches in Nevada, Utah and Wyoming we witnessed long, long trains bringing containers and products to and from. After the trains did their jobs, thousands of trucks take those containers and deliver them to their final destinations, we the people. Just how many battery fires will interrupt, disrupt, and tear apart this marvelous delivery system? When all the trains and trucks are only electric, how will the trucks drive for days and days? We are now reading more and more about the difficulty of charging in colder weather. The EV battery must be warm enough to accept a charge, but how do you warm it battery without using the precious energy you want for travel?

This Brave New World of an EV wonderland is a pipe dream and an intentional recipe for disaster. We have thousands of years of hydrocarbons under our feet :that can supply us with inexpensive and abundant energy. It takes 5 minutes to ‘charge’ our SUV with gasoline, and the SUV will ‘accept’ the charge in the frozen north, as well as the tropical heat.

My company trades products like LVP flooring that almost exclusively comes from China in a container.
It is all brought into the port of Long Beach. So, it may be cost prohibitive to truck that container all the way to Maine.
However, it will still be price competitive in OR or Idaho.

We bring a lot of lumber and OSB from Europe into the USA east coast. We have learned that some ports are much better to work with than others. Baltimore is great. Other places like Wilmington, DE suck because you can only pick up with an appointment.
Cape Canaveral is great. Easy to get trucks going north. Savannah sucks. You pay $1.50 more per mile out of the ports in the Carolinas than you do out of Florida. This affects where you can sell the lumber.

So, logistically it is always easier to get your product picked up in FL because about 5 trucks go into Fl for every one that comes out.

These are the things that affect which port you choose to send that product into. However, many times you do not have a choice. The manufacturer decides what port their products goes to because certain vessel lines only go to certain ports.

We have some lumber that comes out of Europe that has to go to either Baltimore or Houston. That is your choice. So, it may not make that product competitive into MN. It certainly will not work into the Pacific Northwest.

So when is Commifronia going to build enough windmills and solar panels to supply all the electricity needed to charge all those electric trucks. I’d also like to see their plan to rescue all those electric powered vehicles that die every day during their rush hour. Oh, I bet I know what their plan is. Take away vehicles from the Plebes and make them ride the buses.

Imagine the size of those state line transfer stations!

Of course, Bastard Brandon wants these uniform rules across the USA to avoid that.

It is so ludicrous, just like the entire green wet dream of commies, libs and leftists.

The trucks will carry less as the batteries will weigh more.
Prices go way up.

Moving Forward Network?

Real sketchy astroturf outfit. From what I can tell, only has two employees and is located inside a health insurance provider in Philadelphia, whose website leads to a home healthcare outfit. Snappy, boasty website for MFN, originally established in 2013 but "updated" and activated in 2022 but feeble activity on their Facebook page. Yet they allegedly get an audience at the Whitehouse. Smells like a stooge group for the Regime.
