FBI data on good guys with guns called ‘garbage’ as critic finds many more cases
Washington Times ^ | March 20, 2023 | Stephen Dinan

Mercedes Perez crashed her car into another car on a San Antonio street in 2021 and then jumped out with a gun and blazed away at neighbors who came out of their homes to see what happened.

She killed one man, the car’s owner, and wounded his wife and son before another neighbor heard the shooting. He grabbed his gun and ran to the scene, where he killed Perez with a shot to the neck.

John Lott, founder of the Crime Prevention Research Center, said it’s a case of a good guy with a gun stopping a bad guy with a gun.

Yet the incident was left out of the FBI’s database of active shooting incidents.

Mr. Lott said it’s one of dozens of such incidents missing from the bureau’s statistics, which he said has fueled a false narrative that rarely do good guys with guns stop shootings.

The FBI says the rate of active shooting incidents ended by good guys with guns is 4.4% over the years. Mr. Lott says it’s 34.4%.

The FBI’s conclusions are widely cited, particularly as new shootings revive old debates about gun control and whether more access to weapons is safer or more dangerous.

When an armed citizen does intervene and it draws national headlines — as happened at an Indiana mall food court last year — news accounts are quick to point to the FBI’s findings as evidence that it’s a rarity. The FBI’s numbers also have been used in court cases, and they pepper legislative debates on Capitol Hill and in state assemblies.

Mr. Lott said the numbers are so distorted by shoddy work and judgment calls that they are not just worthless but also misleading.

I trust John Lott over the FBI any day of the week.

FBI has proven themselves untrustworthy and nothing more than a political arm of the Democrat party.

That IMO makes them an enemy of the state.

Ted Kennedy’s Oldsmobile has killed more people than has my firearm.

The FBI is simply a political police formation. They are not serious or honest.

Add this to the list of why we don’t trust the FBI/DOJ. And why the whole lot of them need to be flushed.

Life seems to consist of one massive government lie and coverup after another these days.

FBI data used to be a gold standard. Now even it is twisted and mangled.

A large black man was coming through my bedroom window in 1973 by my bed. I pointed the barrel of my Ruger Super Blackhawk at his nose and cocked the hammer back. It was dark but there was no mistaking that sound. He disappeared very fast. My wife was asleep in bed on the side away from the window. No A/C so we slept with that window open.
We didn’t report it to the police. I suspected he was going to kill me and rape my wife.
There have been several other times since then where showing a firearm has caused criminals to run (2 guys in a pickup near Wichita Falls trying to run my brother and I off the highway comes to mind). Just pulling a 30/30 out of the backseat caused them to slam on the brakes and cross the median and run like hell.
We all know similar situations occur frequently. Stats show firearms prevent 2 million crimes per year, but I have heard it is around 3 million.
The FIB has shown it can’t be trusted.
Look what the Hostage Rescue (extermination) Team did at Waco.

Hundreds of thousands of times eachyear. Been this way for years. CDC and FBI data concur.

Denying this is like insisting that Fauci never said the vax would prevent infection. Same type of lie by the same type of Ahole.

By not pulling the trigger he was free to victimize others. Folks, quit kicking the can down the road. End it at first opportunity.

A shooter doesn’t stop shooting because the police arrived. They don’t stop just because they are “the police”!

The shooter stops shooting because a person with a gun, and the intent to defend themselves and others, is present!!

That means every time a shooting is ended by the cops, it should be counted as a “good guy with a gun stopped the bad guy with a gun” - PERIOD!!

The optimal word in all this word salad is “GUN”!! You end deadly gunfire with equally deadly return gunfire! And therefore, anyone with a gun who stops a “bad guy with a gun” is inherently (at least at that point in time) a “good guy with a gun”!

NO. NOT errors or “shoddy” work. The FBI are LIARS. They say whatever needs to be said to please their demonic overlords.

Dr. Lott writes about the deterrent value of brandishing a gun but people’s reluctance to report it lest they become the criminal.

You don’t even need to brandish. Just go about your business with the gun visible and the deterrence happens. It is real effect and a sound idea even though gunternet ninjas will say “It makes you a target!” Of course they are looking out for number one and have no intention of protecting the innocent.

On another thread here about Florida open carry the ignorance is on display. It reminds me of a story where there was an Army spokesman appearing before a committee hearing regarding camouflage. He testified, “We know of no instance where the enemy has successfully used camouflage against us.” (Well, you wouldn’t would you?!)

Men who cannot understand why there are no statistical studies validating the deterrence value of open carry are probably not smart enough to tell people why they should not do it.
